Jost and boeser on the same team would be fun. Thats why we will take jost for hutton and a 2nd (classic benning)

The 2nd round pick is the only thing keeping this whole thing from going full circle.

Hindsight is 20/20 with that Kyle Wood trade. No one would know he would be top 5 in rookie scoring in the AHL. I think the time is now though to start to look at not just this season, but the past 5 season, then look at your prospect cupboard, then look at your AHL team, and start addressing the issues.

I liked him in Junior and thought he was a pretty good D prospect so I didn't really like that trade. Partly because I'm not a big Boedkker fan as well and happy they didn't resign him. Who knows what Kyle Wood will turn into. I just wish they'd give Duncan Siemens a fair chance but I highly doubt they will. Don't know why they wouldn't, not like they can drop further in the Standings lol.

I loved the Boedker trade last Spring. The Avs were making a playoff push and Tanguay was struggling bigtime and was on the outs, Wood was a prospect and Bleakley was a bust. That trade was one that Sakic did really well on, too bad Boedker didn't want to re-sign here. But Joe did great, a great rental that could maybe re-sign on the offseason for a guy who was in the twilight of his career, a bust and D prospect.

I didn't like it. I get what they were trying to do but I liked Kyle Wood as a prospect and we could have gotten a 2nd round pick for not signing Bleakley. Boedkker didn't do much of anything to help a playoff push that would have been a 1st round exit anyway. I hope we can pawn off some dead weight for picks come the trade deadline.

That's the thing with rentals, sometimes they work out and sometimes they don't. I loved the creativity Boedker brought, I see Rantanen being a similar player but better. If Dutch and Mack stayed healthy I think the Avs would not only have made the playoffs last year but they might have won a round. It is what it is though, sometimes you have to give a little and the return could be well worth it. I like the mentality to "go for it", the right combo can bring a cup home.

We did the same thing with Patrick McNally, Kevin Connauton, Frank Corrado. I think we gave up on them too soon, then forced to bring up and sign a guy like Biega (and to some extent Larsen). I think our D is rounding out nicely now and things will be much clearer after expansion draft. I think a ton of teams are just waiting for this stupid thing to be over.

Teams have given up far worse than we did at the deadline for rentals. Playoff contending teams are always giving up a little more with that "go for it, win now" mentality. It's a tough spot when you are just squeezing into that wild card spot but I'm sure the fanbase wouldn't of been pleased if last season the Avs didn't make a single move and played it safe.

I'm really bummed that we didn't re-sign The Lion, aka Matthias. Dude put up good numbers for being a bottom six guy and killed penalties.

I have bought into the fact that we are still 3 or 4 years away from competing, it would be foolish for me to think otherwise. Had we torn it down properly in 2012/13 like we should have, maybe we would be further ahead, but its out of my hands. Benning has been awful with including picks in his trades, but his trades have not been awful. Sutter has been mediocre at best, Granlund trade has been great, Gudbranson has been hurt, and we have 4 players in the top 40 (who aren't currently in the nhl) on Buttons recent list. Its a slow process, but patience is definitely key, no need for the hostility friend I am not trying to piss you off.

You must be a rare breed of Canuck fan then haha. I feel like for the Nucks its going to get a lot worse before it gets better unfortunately. I didn't get pissed off I just can resist scraps sometimes.

I think when you come to terms with reality, and lower expectations, and start to see the good, things start to get easier. For instance, until the Sedins retire, we won't really be competitive. They have aged over the last couple seasons, still incredible players and people, but I think the team is now turning over to Horvat. We still have an aging core that needs to be replaced (burrows, hansen, edler) and we have to get rid of all of our AHL talent (gaunce, megna, skille) but all in good time. We have 4 players in Buttons top 50, all of which are top 40 prospects on his list so we slowly coming along. We have a good setup for the future in Demko, Great forward in Boeser and Gaudette, MAYBE Virtanen amounts to a 3rd line power forward, and hopefully Juolevi is that future 1D that we need. #smallvictories and babysteps
