When you get a 3rd rounder you never know.
What if that picks becomes one of the following drafted in the 3rd in the past 5 seasons:

Anthony Duclair
Jimmy Vesey
Shayne Gostisbehere
Colton Parayko
Frederik Andersen
Matt Murray
Brett Pesce
Oliver Bjorkstrand
Brayden Point
Vincent Trocheck
Adam Lowry
Klas Dahlbeck
Anthoiny Camara
Nick Shore

Just a matter of having the right scouts to turn those later round picks in to solid players.

I predict that Gormley will retire early, move back home to Minnesota and start coaching a kids hockey team in order to get out of a dui. He'll rediscover his love of the game and get another tryout at the age of 32, when he'll suddenly become a breakout sensation.

I like this feel good story, but it can only be enhanced if he joins the mighty ducks. Emilio Estevez is there to teach him a tough lesson that takes half the season, but after one of his teammates sticks up for him, he realizes his errors, improves and plays for the stanley cup. Only to lose and retire, knowing that he took his chance and not only improve his game but also improve himself.

An unnecessary amount of examination for what is a fairly meaningless sort of trade.

I have this affect on him, idk. Not like I use inflammatory language towards him. Just occupy space within his dome.

Comparing Stone to Larsson is pointless. Stone is older, not percieved to have a high ceiling in terms of potential to improve and is (if anything) regressing. Larsson
has top-5 drafting pedigree, is only 24 and statistically has improved (been trending up) defensively. Stone at 26, may be worth more than a 3rd. But in no way is trending in the same direction in terms of stats (icetime/opposition/5on5/possession) as Larsson was when he was traded, nor does he have nearly as much perceived value based on potential going forward. He's a 4th d-man on a bad team, could potentially be the 4 guy for the Flames but more likely a bottom pair. Here's a recent article to support my claims about his stats being sub-par. http://www.sportsnet.ca/h...chael-stone-bring-flames/

Your best blog; Great writing, great analysis, great sarcasm and great conclusion. As someone that often criticizes points I disagree with, I wanted to make sure I call out the opposite.

You fundamentally whiffed on the point he was making. He wasn't saying that stone and Larsson are comparable. He's saying the difference between stone and larsson is not equal to the difference between Hall and a third round pick. In other words the market is off right now, or better yet was way off when chiarelli made his Hall trade.

Good article Tanner!

When it comes to trades this year, I just don't know what to expect. Between the utter collapse of Colorado this year, the parity of many teams fighting for playoff spots, and most importantly the upcoming expansion draft, I have no idea what is going to happen. Hopefully we see some really great blockbuster trades either before the deadline or before the expansion draft. Tradez are fun.

It's a good thing you laughed, since it was a joke. At the risk of ruining said joke by explaining it, he was suggesting that if Chiapet gave up Hall for Larson, that he might give up Puljujarvi for Stone, since both deals are terrible for the Oilers.

Not that it means much, but I called you out on the Oil bandwagon. You said they would be 1 seed, which is unlikely, but they will be closer than I ever gave them credit for.

You may suck at music choices, but you occasionally hit the mark on prognostication. For today, kudos to you Tanner

Yes, and currently an Albany Devil.

He's got 9 points in 32 games and a fugly -12.

In the old days people cared about defenseman actually being able to play defense more then thier offensive potential....

We all know lots of guys who look like they'll be legit NHL players on draft day end up not cutting it. And despite Levit8's Philidelphian Assholishness, Tanner made a great point in that the smaller market and weaker teams get prospects that rarely turn a franchise around.

All republicans take note: this is how you establish credibility. Also, thanks.

I am loving the fact people think I said they could have gotten Puljjurjarvi.
