Duchene is a very skilled and offensively talented player. He is a true Top 6 Winger and still in his prime. I just think that Hartman is a guy you want to have on your team both this year and moving forward. He looks to be a 20 goal, physical, winger that can play on any line and be effective. The salary is the biggest issue. Sure, you'd do Hartman for Duchene straight up (if salary worked), but the trade would likely be Hartman ++ and I'm not sure how much better that makes the Hawks this year and moving forward.
- EnzoD

I think most of us feel that same way. If they trade for him it has to be the right trade pieces. Likely it will be impossible to find what will be acceptable by both Colorado and Chicago.

Hartman seems like he can become a very useful player. But, is he seen to be a top 6 guy? I don't think so...at least the jury is out on that.

On the other hand, Duchene/Palat *IS* considered a top 6 guy on just about any team.

If StanBo moves a big salary in the summer (CC? Seabs?) one of those guys will be easier to afford under the cap.

What I'm saying is, if I were the Blackhawk FO, I wouldn't hold onto the "great Ryan Hartman", if there's a reasonable belief they can win another Cup with the addition of either of those two guys.

Cups are more important than Ryan Hartman.

- tompo1015

True. But there are other factors. Q likes grindy players and there's no one on the big club or at Rockford that could step in immediately and produce as a LW like Hartman has. Dutch is a better player overall, but as a team, they need someone like Hartman if they want to win the Cup. At least, that's my opinion.

I like Palat better as a player and trade proposition. He can be a b to play against (hated him in the cup final )

Depends if TB is selling this time and if so what Stevie would want for him. He's an RFA. I'm also not sold on Sakic moving Duchene. Doesn't make sense to me really. If I was him, you build around that core they have and not completely blow it up. I think he might just be seeing if he could get a huge return that could work and if not, he'll keep him.

On the Arizona Coyotes …

Craig Morgan: GM John Chayka hasn’t ruled out re-signing Martin Hanzal. Sources saying that there is a lot of interest in Hanzal.

Craig Morgan: Chayka said again that there hasn’t been any talks about Shane Doan waiving his no-movement clause. Don’t think it happens.

This.

This year the move would certainly be an improvement, but for the future it's a very serious coin flip.

Obviously the big factor with Dutch is his cap hit and right now he is "not worth 6mil a season." With that said, plop him on a solid playoff contender and he could be worth potentially north of 6mil.

Hartman IMO will not be that 6mil guy, but will be that intangible piece that cup winning teams have that others don't. And those guys are the ones who fetch that median cap hit that is hard to spend on but is so valuable to a team, ala Kruger.

At this point, unless Sakic and Co. are willing to eat half of Dutch's salary in receiving Hartman I would probably bite, but I don't see that happening.

Retained some salary? His cap hit is only $1 mil silly guy
- Assman22

Yep. I don't want to give up hardly anything to get the guy. He's had a good run this year playing on higher lines than normal because of injuries in Dallas. If he is not crazy cheap I pass on him.

JUST GOT A BIG UPDATE:

DUCHENE

Done. Over. Hawks are out. This time that looks solid.

PALAT

Hawks still interested but TB still sniffing the playoffs

DALLAS

Eaves a real possibility, some concerns about his health(?), but Hawks' not really interested in Oduya.

ARIZONA

Hanzal a possibility, price must come down health(?) also a concern allegedly

DETROIT

Tatar and Vanek now go to the top of the list.

MISC

Tonight's game is a HUGE measuring stick for how aggressive Stan will be. May do nothing and I am told if he does, that means perhaps another major move in the summer. May do something minor involving Desjardins and McNeill.

MY TAKE

Whoever theorized Vanek may end up being right. Right now, my spider sense is him or Hanzal. Possibly Eaves.

I'm not disagreeing here. I do think #38 is a player that should remain a Blackhawk. However... Just to play devils advocate here... Duchene DOES have top end skill. He can play any forward position and has played in all situations. And yes,
Duchene >> Hartman.

- 93Joe

Exactly. Duchene is a 5x 20-goal scorer, and potted 30 the year before last. A little unfair to throw him under the bus when he has 16 goals on what is by far the worst team in the league. He is also winning at a 62.8% clip at the dot.

I realistically cannot be excited about Vanek if they give up anything if value. Just not a fan and he disappeared for MN.

Vanek doesn't excite me--like Palat or Duchene--but, he's gotta be a LOT cheaper. If it's gotta be Vanek I just hope Stan doesn't overpay for the guy.

I'd sooner see Stan do nothing than give up a useful asset for a rental.

if the hawks like panik/toews/schmaltz...put him with hossa on the third line. greater depth in the bottom six...more mismatch problems for teams.

as much as i like panik/toews/schmaltz as of late, it's hard to think they can thrive in playoff hockey when the hitting is turned way up and every game is very physical.

For the sake of argument lets only use drafts picks because we have no idea how other teams few some of our prospects.

would you give up a 2nd for ? Hanzel, Tatar, Vanek? I think I would say yes for Hanzel and tatar. But not for vanek. Vanek I think I would say a 3rd?

Schmaltz is the only of the 3 I can see having problems in the playoffs. Toews is a bull and Panik likes himself a bit of the old ultra-violence.

Presumably the "ask" for Tatar or Vanek would be much lower than Duchene.....correct?

Are we talking one of Schmaltz/Hino/Forsling and a pick, maybe a servicable low line vet? (Desi)
