The window is this year and next year. Then its trade, tank and draft.

The following year will be a strike/lockout year for sure - and it won't settle quickly. Now you have most of core guys past 30-40 (Hossa) years old after the strike/lockout.

This is a very good point.......10 years from now the window will have closed the team will have perhaps bottomed out and drafting high thus starting the next core.

Interesting tidbit while watching the NHL channel this afternoon. They were talking with a reporter about trade possibilities and Duchene came up. He said he talked with a GM (who wasn't named) who's team was in the cup hunt and said that Colorado's asking price was too high. He believed it would weaken his teams lower lines too much among other things. Sounded eerily like he talked with SB. Which falls in line with what JJ reported earlier. Just an FYI.

Gotta think if Scotty Bowman is at a game, then that's a high likelihood of a deal. Now Stan is in Tampa..? Maybe they are there to get there observations and prices from the opposing GM and they meet back in Chicago to discuss what the best path forward is.

It seemed exactly as though he was referencing Bowman-- IIRC-- I believe he said something like its a team that is always in the hunt for the Cup--
