This.

This year the move would certainly be an improvement, but for the future it's a very serious coin flip.

Obviously the big factor with Dutch is his cap hit and right now he is "not worth 6mil a season." With that said, plop him on a solid playoff contender and he could be worth potentially north of 6mil.

Hartman IMO will not be that 6mil guy, but will be that intangible piece that cup winning teams have that others don't. And those guys are the ones who fetch that median cap hit that is hard to spend on but is so valuable to a team, ala Kruger.

At this point, unless Sakic and Co. are willing to eat half of Dutch's salary in receiving Hartman I would probably bite, but I don't see that happening.

Duchene is not worth 6 million like Toews is not worth 10.5.

He's the calibre of player you can build a team around. Kind of crazy that Colorado couldn't do better but then again those are the same bozos that traded ROR and let Statsny go sooooooo there's that.

I could see a team like the Canes and Devils getting in the market as sellers—Bowman talks to Francis a lot too.
- John Jaeckel

Hi, JJ--I brought up the Hainsey idea this morning on the blog.

he'll be an UFA this summer and I'm thinking that could make the Canes play ball a bit because I don't think they'll resign him with the young depth they have on defense.

Would love to have Ron on the blue line come time.

Takes the pressure off and ever-aging Rozy, in my opinion.

Isnt it spelled Duchene?

I've seen the Duchesne spelling a lot the last few weeks.

- BlazinMike

I believe Mr. Duchene doesn't give a rat's a** as long as the check clears!!!!

Bob McKenzie: Canucks could be looking to move a defenseman like Ben Hutton for help up front

Interesting things coming out of Vancouver.

one thing to also remember depending on how much money anybody we trade for makes, ending the year with $1 mil in cap space can help pay for every bodies bonuses this year. IE don't give up something of value and take on salary for someone you are not sure is a solid upgrade.

Schmaltz-Toews-Panik
Panarin-Anisimov-Kane
Rasmussen-Kruger-Hossa
Hartman-Kero-Hinostroza

for my eye's HINO or Kero is the weakest player. We also should go back to 13 FR and 7 D to save the cap space for bonuses. No reason to have Hino up until we move Desi. also if we trade for Tatar, We would probably protect from EXP: Teows, panic, aa, kane, hossa, Hartman, Tatar. Also I'm not sure they take Kruger. He is going to be paid a $2 mil bonus on July 1st. IE kind of a poison pill.

Nobody is taking Desi and his 1 point, no hit, do nothing game. Maybe they can package him with McNeill in return for a bag of pucks. Add in Kruger and his $1.5M per goal cap hit, and maybe we get 2 bags of pucks.

I think Tampa is the dark horse depending on their next few games

Kruger, Debrincat, 2018 1st

For

Palat and Paquette

- 93Joe

They are shopping Stiff Coburn, Jason Garrison, and Brian Boyle IF they are out of contention.

They are gonna do there best to keep those two, so they can challenge....

what about forsling, pokka, and a pick?
- ToewsdNKanefusd

Got Tomas Tatar??

Far too much for a guy you are going to be unable resign and your team already lacks size....

How many NHL goals has he scored?

A "value for value" deal that Holland can't refuse. He HAS a lot of good young forwards. He NEEDS defense.

Forsling, TVR and a pick?

- John Jaeckel

Get me the kid who played with Norte Dame...Riley Sheehan...and you have a longer Cap control and more upside.

If the Hawks are trading BOTH Forsling and possible Las Vegas departe, you better get more value that the suggestions I see

Hoping for this:

PAK ---------------------------------1st scoring line
Schmaltz-Toews-Panik ---------- 2nd scoring line
Tatar/Palat-Kruger-Hossa ------ 3rd scoring line/shutdown line
Hinostroza-Kero-Hartman ------ Speed/energy 4th line that can also score

I'm sorry, no.

First, I never mentioned Sharp as a comparator. Keith is perhaps a sort of outlier due to his draft position. let me know when OFrsling is Duncan Keith.

But Kane was drafted first overall for the same reason he won the Hart Trophy last year. Toews was taken third overall because of all the tools he had. Who is the next Marian Hossa among the Hawks' rookies?

Let's not shift the goalposts. The original point was the current group of rookies and top prospects are not graded out by anyone who is not perhaps wearing rose-colored glasses (and more) as being the equal potentially of the current core.

They weren't drafted as high (for the most part). They didn't do as much in international junior competition. And with the exception of deBrincat, not as much in junior/college play. And not as much in the AHL or their rookie NHL years either.

I guess I would challenge you to find me a scout or GM or even, say, objective fans of other teams who would support that argument.

- John Jaeckel

I don't think anyone said they graded out as potentially equal to the current core (which another poster rightly characterized as generational.) Rather, those of us who want to keep the rookies and prospects believe that together with the core, they could provide the depth needed not only for a long run this year, but also during the next several years.

One thing people should remember is that the Hawks core now is the result of many bad seasons where the team tanked, amassing a large young talent pool of prospects (because of all the draft picks) and then kept the best players.

Of course they are going to be better in general than whatever the Hawks can manage to draft with all the late round picks and not to mention times the Hawks have traded their draft picks/prospects to bolster the team for the playoffs.
