Garnie I'm reading 65% and 72% at hockey reference..
I was just looking at TOI; Martin was played 2-3 mins more in NYI than in TOR, so not sure whether Babcock is really that much of a favorite of him, or that it's just bc the other players on his line are not good enough (for Babcock) to give them more toi. - MaximusAurelius
FWIW, I think that your earlier suggestion of Martin-Goat-Leo would actually have the makings of a pretty good fourth line. I do however disagree with upping their minutes to 2nd/3rd line levels if Leafs are leading. For me, that would be a line to put out in the O-zone when leading, as their real strength is hard-checking and cycling the puck. |

I would agree; not sure why you'd think I'd say otherwise? (it was exactly what I was referring to; now Martin and company only gets d-zone starts, but in playoffs could get a bit more time) |

My apologies - I read your previous message as advocating for their use being heavily weighted towards D-zone starts. |

Awesome Matthews with these highlight reel goals while Laine can only score in open nets
Those should be a separate stat. |

Maybe the Leafs should take a look at MDZ. At 26 years old they can resign him in the offseason. |

How many empty netters does he have? If the Leafs could ever hold a lead I'd be happy as (frank) is Matthews potted several empty netters |

no.. another guy said Leafs get outshot heavily when Martin on ice, and my reply was that it's quite logical if he gets 65% of his starts in defensive zone |

I was just wondering - since I agree it would be a wise move to try and get a good young d-man now instead of waiting until the off-season.

I can't even remember any Leaf getting one. PIsses me off that when the Leafs pull their goalie, the other team always seems to score. But when the others pull their goalie....the other team seems to score.

Look at PP vs 5on5 too..
I think Matthews is actually a better pure scorer than Laine.. if it was Matthews job to shadow Schiefs and Ehlers he'd probably have more than he does. |

I honestly don't even care if he's that young.. early 30s is fine as long as the contract is good and he greatly improves the defence.. I personally like Hjarmalssons game but it's looking less likely they trade him. |

I find our D is always making risky pinches.. or they're late getting back.
It's like the Leafs need to run and gun to win.. playing constructive hockey is something they'll learn over the years. |

I'm fairly certain Kalinen was the Leafs major deadline acquisition. Hope you all enjoyed it. |

For me, the top acquisitions on D would be Lindholm or Hamilton.
Player in your category of 30+, imo best option would be Justin Braun SJ - RH and good defensive skills. |
