Another yuge trade like the Loov one coming up?
- Fakepartofme

I think the Leafs got jealous of the Jays abundance of minor-league activity.

Not sure why a team wouldn't want to rid a contract and trade garbage for him.
- poohcrumbs

Perhaps because he's old as (frank) and useless.

I can't remember the age but I've recently learned a lot of children under a certain age (I think it was like 15) can't read an analog clock....
- markmark

When I was 7 my mom made me prove I can read a clock before she bought me a timex ironman

It's enough.

cap space / contract spots aren't free. nobody will do a favor for the leafs.
- Tumbleweed

It isn't a favour for the Leafs. They clearly don't care if he's on their cap for 3 more months, they want to try to give him a chance on a cup contender and the best way to do that is to offer him for free.

You are correct on cap/contract space but it's easier when you aren't giving up assets. Maybe move a bad contract yourself if need be.

I was, and still am, very good at reading clocks.

If you give me any two hand positions I bet I can read the time.

I might have to buy another one. Apparently they sell Ironman triathlon watches with indiglo on amazon.

Liach 50% salary retained for Wideman.

Flames get much needed cap relief. Leafs have 15 mil
In cap space right now. And leafs get a decent bottom pairing for the rest of the year.

I'm actually kinda happy that the Leafs stuffed Laich on the Marlies and forgot about him.

I have nothing against the man. I don't know jackpoop about him, but I believe he has the reputation of being a stand-up guy.

But he clearly can't play the hockeys anymore, and MLSEL owes him absolutely no favours.

I'm glad he's not taking away opportunities from young Leafs who have a future with the club.

I'm hoping he gets claimed, but I'm not holding my breath. 29 other GMs already knew they could have him for absolutely nothing.

Hey I just want to see him get a chance somewhere else! I'm not expecting anything in return. It would just be great.

EDIT: Also you're right that they don't owe him anything. I do remember on these forums people complaining that we won't get older free agents or whatever because the management has made it clear "If you don't fit into the plans we'll bury you. Anywhere."

In this case they are showing some good faith they will do what they can to accommodate his request.

They came out with a kick-ass Ironman GPS a couple of years ago - could store songs for bluetooth headphones, connected to cellular so you could send messages, receive messages, your spouse could track you, waterproof, lots of other cool features.

And it bombed. Not sure why, but nobody bought it.

Timex dumped it less than a year later.

I'm still a little tempted to pick one up of I see it for $150 or less.

He was never part of our plans.

Washington threw him on our lawn, leaving us the responsibility of taking him to the dump.

With that said, I fully expect Benning to make a claim on him.

I know that. We got Carrick for taking his contract on. He never fit into the plans and was tossed aside.

Anyway, we're going to go in a circle here so let's just hope he's picked up!

What happens if he isn't claimed? He ends up on the big team?
