regardless if its good or bad, seems odd an owner or president goes to negotiate a trade, seems more like they want to see if he wants to come back or be traded and come back possibly. Lets be honest, with how often Markstrom has played, he isn't in the long term plans.
- nelson911

Not saying they are the same, but I have a feeling if they move on from Markstrom they will regret it, a la Dubnyk. He is the same age now when Dubnyk was given up on by Edmonton and Arizona and I really dont think our team is much better now than those were

Because playoffs are more fun then a bottom three finish...he's got another contract he's trying to play for as well. What's the difference anyway...his family is in LA.

I hope Bobby is wrong....but why in the frank would Miller waive for Calgary? They aren't a contender and they aren't close to his wife.
- CanuckDon

I was being somewhat facetious and just pointing out that there may be needs on other teams that aren't as obvious or aren't being bandied about in the press & pundits.

This is hilarious...a potential $8 million cap hit thanks Gillis

- CanuckDon

I cant see them enforcing that. Its ridiculous for them to get him to play 11 out of 12 and punish them that badly.

I imagine they get it fixed at the next CBA, or go through an appeal like the Kovalchuk thing to reduce its impact

What in the frank are you talking about?
- CanuckDon

The claim was that Hansen is always injured, so I asked if he meant like as much as Baertschi who has now sustained his 2nd concussion and is currently on IR.

Even if the Canucks were taking some risk by committing to a goalie well past an age which had little history of performance, the problem was other teams hated the competitive advantage Gillis and other GMs, like Lou Lamoriello in New Jersey, had figured out. There were no rules preventing contracts like this. Some teams had figured out how to game the system and that pissed people off.

“Teams that did those contracts essentially embarrassed Gary [Bettman]. We found a way to circumvent the CBA legally,” said one executive. “He was incensed, and said, ‘I’m going to get you back.’ Which he did.”

Possible but Miller is not likely to sign in the 3's.
- LordHumungous

He may not likely have another job in his target markets either. Vancouver is a prime team for him to play a good chunk of games and get paid. I could see him playing for 4 mil for 1 year and dipping a bit below that if they go for 2 years.

Yeah...it's reasonable if he still wants to keep playing. Not alot of options out there for him anymore. Especially at 6 mil per.

Fair....I just see zero chance Miller waives to play 4 playoff games in a sh!tty town further away from his wife. There is no upside for him. Calgary will get hammered if they make the playoffs and it won't help his contract demands. ANA? maybe....but I don't think Benning trades him for a 4th. It's just not worth it.

That would be awesome....unfortunately a couple of big differences in the situations that I see.

1) Markstrom has never had an opportunity to show he can start. Despite what the the oilers thought, Dubnyk had some very solid stretches of play on a terrible Oiler team as a starter.

2) Dubynk went from a wide open system on a team that had little or no defensive support to first a Dave Tippett trap team to then the always responsible Wild team.

Markstrom is currently playing in front of a trapping team and while at times has looked decent still has proven he can handle playing a large amount of games in the NHL.

Bae has played most of the season the last 3 years. I would not label him injury prone at all. This was a cheap shot that would have concussed most players.

Injury prone isn't a thing, it's just another catch phrase that is completely subjective.

I thought last season he showed some good promise when Miller was out.

Aside from one 47 start season, Dubnyk's seasons were mid 30's up to this point in age and both big bodies. I admit they arent identical, nor do I think Markstrom will see the success level Dubnyk has had since getting to Minnesota, I just think that they can give him the opportunity with nothing to lose and would rather that occur than recycle Miller

Yeah it doesn't seem likely....everyone is well aware of his desire to be near the wifey. But if JB played hardball and told him " hey we have no spot for you next year " and of course the LA teams are pretty well set in goal. I could see Miller grabbing on to a more desperate situation like Calgary. They could be one of a few teams willing to sign him to a 2-3 year deal. Why not take a 20 game look at them and maybe a few playoff games? Beats playing out the losing string in van .

I agree no point in giving up on Markstrom, especially since I don't think we have seen him get enough of a chance yet.

Don't forget as well that the season Dubynk got 38 starts was the partial year because of the lockout. He posted a .921 but only had 14 wins. He was the starter for Edm for 2.5 seasons.

How long are we waiting until the APB goes out for Carol?

We may need to postpone the picnic at this rate.

It's been 24 hours, call the police to do a health check on her house, then file a missing person's report and we'll organize search parties and get the dogs and helicopters out looking.
