Megna for.a 7th will be a nice trade. Heck I would even throw in Larsen for free, just so I don't have to see him in Canuck uniform again.

Looking at Cap Friendly, Hansen to Chicago makes sense. They have all their picks this year, and hey have a spot open to protect Hansen (7th spot would currently go to Kruger unless they want to expose him to try and dump his salary).

Not sure Hansen is a fit in CHI town...he would be a fit in PIT IMO.

I'm likely in the minority here but I actually think Hutton has had a better season in many ways. He is producing a bit less but he is also getting 3rd pairing minutes and partners compared to over half his season last year on the PP 1 and playing with Tanev who always makes his partners better.

i would use your argument to defend Gudbranson too, Huttons struggles have had negative impact on the perception of Gudbranson and his benefit to the team going forward...that being said i think Edler/Gudbranson pairing might be best for all parties

Guddy will be just fine here as will Eriksson next season. Scuks we have to wait but they will be fine.

Guddy with Edler might work.

Megna and Chaput have been nice un-heralded signings by Benning

i would like to see Edler with a partner that has his back always , because i believe Edler has a nasty side to his game that just needs to be backed up to be consistant ...ask Eric Stall

I disagree with the above. I think it is safe to assume that most college free agents (undrafted) who are signed will most likely start in the AHL. I think that is almost given. BUT - Stecher (in either Button or BMack's words) was the most sought after, well rounded free agent available from the NCAA (and that is over Benning/Tanev/Cagguila). So in a way, yes its a nice surprise he in the line up, but at the same time, you kind of see (with gudbranson and multiple other injuries) why Stecher is where he is today. And I am not taking anything away from him as he has been a gem for us this year.

He was only referenced as an example to pressure, expectation and performance parameters. It was different for him as opposed to a high draft pick. Not taking away from him earning anything. Though Larsen's failure and D injuries gave him the chance.

As you said he was a surprise. That's why the outlook on him is different. He's on the bright spot bubble now and that's a good thing for the team.

I would agree. In some ways he has been better, but he has been worse too. As one of the other 29 other teams, who is more appealing, a young defensemen who has shown success and who is automatically protected, or a 30 year old in Hansen who must require protection and will probably be pretty pricey due to his amazing cap.

I like Hansen but unfortunately his versatility makes him very injury -prone now...would be shocked to see him play more than 50 games a year again. Time to cut the knot.

I was implying that a trade of that significance is all I am expecting.

Also an opportunity to try out a farmhand like Grenier. At least give him a sniff he has been a loyal soldier on the farm.

Right on both counts. I have coffee a few/times month with a Jets scout and he says they are always watching Hansen...they like him. However for the Jets to pull the trigger on Hansen they need to solidify a PO spot before TDL...which isn't likely.

Thought of that the other day but cap is the problem.
- Nighthawk

They have 3.5mil avail, and after expansion he can be a tradeable asset if needed. Not ideal for Hansen, but after he is traded not our problem.

Are you alluding to his value for a Cup contender is more now at TDL over a vet with proven playoff performance?

I don't understand why it's necessary to move him now?

I have no complaints about either. I wouldn't complain if either were brought back next season.

true, and they only have 6 must protects. other players they would protect are UFA and won't be protected, can be signed after draft.

Making a trade for the sake of making a trade is a bad idea.

Hutton is young, cheap and likely to improve.
