I'm mostly just pointing out that many had Cassels penciled in the lineup after his memorial cup performance. Just like people are penciling in Gaudette at this point.

Players rarely turn out the way we hope/expect.

- belcherbd

Cassels is behind Hank BO Sutter Granlund Chaput Gaunce Gaudette.
Ceiling is 4C at best IMO.
Gaudette is hoped as a 3C. If he makes it as 2C we struck gold. 4C is still most likely.

See, you still can't see it lol. Their best players are all youthful, ours are old, except Horvat. They're trending up, we're still trending down, that's the part you can't see for whatever reason.

They're in an enviable position because they're already better than us with teenagers....that's the part that excites me. That's where I want Benning to go!

- LeftCoaster

To be fair we aren't trending up or down. We are more or less the same as last year. At least the team is younger than last year while we suck.

It's going to take a few years before we have a new young core? Can you be patient?

I'm old, I'm still here.

Long time follower on the board but never a poster, so here goes. First and foremost, I feel fortunate that we have such an excellent blogger in Carol who daily gives us all something to think about and comment on. Second, I'm a decades long Canucks fan.....freaked out when Druken put us back in the playoffs.......Greg Adams! Greg Adams! I made the painful trek to Boston for a humiliating Game 6 and ventured back to Vancouver to sit in pain at the rink for Game 7 and left the rink with my buddy with 8 minutes left in the third and was one of the lucky ones to catch a skytrain out of dodge before the riots began. I have bled the Halloween colors and now the blue and green. I over value our players like many fans do. The word tank isn't in my vocabulary, but seeing an honest effort turn into a lottery pick doesn't hurt my feelings. Winning is the best culture and frank the Oilers or Leafs model. Lottery odds be damped, if it's meant to be, it will be. I'm a JB guy but not a WD guy. I loved Sedinery and will have a tear in my eye when 22 and 33 go to the rafters, but I don't like the Father Time model and know it's going to be tough sledding watching them be the shells of who they were for the next season and a quarter. The new culture won't take over until they are gone and we all have to hope that Bo and the next generation take from them what their legs can't do anymore and carry this franchise proudly for the next generation. I think Burrows and Hansen have played their last games in Canucks colors after Saturdays upcoming game. Miller will be re-signed for 4.5 mil for one year, like it or not. Boeser I hope provides hope that there WILL be Canucks prospects on the way that know what the back of the net is. I proudly have worn my 53 Jersey since the beginning of last year and expect to add a C to it in 2018. Sorry for the long post, but there's a sense of what I feel and look forward to the occasional convo with the regular posters here. Team tank, team glass half full, we all want the same thing. Figuring out how to get there is more than half the fun for those that follow along.

I wouldn't mind seeing Boeser with the twins in May. he is strong on the boards and has a great shot. I think a season and a bit with them could bring him into the league nicely. This is not penciling him in for 1st line duties. Though they usually get the most ice time I see the twins as a 2/3 and Bo as our 1
- Retinalz

I think the only way to help the twins is to split them up. I don't get how they can't see that when they play behind the goal line they suck but playing above it they aren't bad. WD needs to coach them.

It's not a negative outlook, it's a constructive outlook, the difference in here is the pillow-biters think everything is negative when you're just trying to be realistic.
- LeftCoaster

Maybe the pillow biters will ease up when the armchair dreamers start being realistic.

You can criticize draft picks failing but you have to recognize the other draft picks succeeding .

You look at Sutter as a bust ,I look at Sutter as when is the last time Canucks had a third line center that had third line center with 15 goals and 27 points with still 21 games to go.

We see things very different.

Bo Horvat is our best player, however, the Sedins are still top five for forwards, which means they're still in a group of "best players".

There's 8 players in their 30's on the Canucks, and all of them would be considered best or top three in their positions, forwards, defence and goaltending.

I don't think cassels is a bust. I think he will be a 4th liner at best. He seems to be a slow starter. He is doing better then last season. It took him 3 years to break out in the CHL. Gaudette definitely has more upside but probably not much more then a 3rd line Center.
- manvanfan

thought i heard a JB interview and he said they see gaudette as having 3rd line center potential

No they are really not .

Bo Sven Sutter and Granlund all have more goals than both of them and they get all of the O zone starts and PP time .

That is old fashion thinking.

Also I am sure if you had 14 mil you could find two replacements that can score 12 goals a year

Point being that, everyone's opinions/expectations concerning Gaudette right now, have likely nowhere to go but down.

Same as the Cassels hype.

- Whiskey-Tango

I hope hes in utica next season and then we can find out. As mentioned by someone else he has nothing to prove in the ncaa next season especially if lots of sr's leave as they wont have a shot at the frozen four.

If you watch him play hes similar to a kessler or hansen type in that he doesnt stop or give up and has decent wheels. I think he has legit 3rd line potential.
