I think we will wait and see before resorting to going after Smith... hes like asking out the Tuba player in the band when you couldn't get the homecoming queen. |

Franson over Kulikov every time. Kulikov sucks - j.boyd919
If he didn't take that back injury in the preseason I think he could have been decent. Not sure what the Sabres will get for him, but I bet there's a buy out there somewhere. |

I'm really hoping to just do the depth defenseman trade. This doesn't feel like a year to go "all-in". We are definitely a top contender, but I think our window is wide-open right now. I think a team like the caps have to make "all-in" moves because their window is smaller.
Matt Murray I think has really changed how long how window is open. Sprong/Guentzel are contributing their too as potential cheap top 6 guys. The kessel trade opened the door a lot too as at 6.8 million we added an affordable second-tier star. Looks to me like our window is 5 years right now and any window open that long might have other positive developments to keep it open.
So hold on to picks/prospects to fill the depth roles. If somehow we hit on a letang like pick and add a top pairing dman with a low pick then our window won't close. |

What about Kyle Quincey? - Rinosaur
He'd be a good economy choice. Very cheap contract at 1.250 mil. Easy to fit him in the cap.
I'd consider Cody Franson. But he has 3.325 mil so someone like Fehr would need to go in the trade
Why not bring back Derrick Engelland? At 2.9 mil
How about Johnny Oduya? at 3.750 mill
All UFAs after this year.
All they need is a decent D-man and they'll be in the same position as last year. Feels weird to say but makes me miss Lovejoy. |

Franson isn't a "depth" guy IMO. I feel like he'd be a waste as a 7th both financially and talent-wise.
I'm definitely not against Odyua, but can't imagine how Engelland fits into this system.
I think Quincey brings a little element of everything. |
