I really dont care honestly
Trends change by the years.. was we need a big team like the kings to win...no we need a fast team like the pens to win.

If D were so valuable back then, every team wouldve drafted those players. Hindsight 20/20 EVERY team misses on picks it's part of the draft. Win some lose some.

- yen6d1

I agree with you in general
But not that draft

Gerbe & I are both draft guys and there's ZERO excuse for what Murray did there with those picks

It was a joke

6 out of 30 players drafted in that second round have played in at least a game.. that's it. Yeah they were crap picks, but not big enough to care about. We picked guhle the next year so it does work just not every year

At 50% retained, Stone's $4,000,000 cap hit will only cost the #Flames $544,444 in cap space for the rest of the season.

Depends on how desperate a team gets closer to the deadline I guess.

I remember that... And I think it was the exact moment I was done with him. RNH is a decent player but he has the body of a 14 year old boy eternally.

Yeah, those guys are still developing
The thing that you can't really get around is that we had very little defensive depth as far as prospects go back then...
and we still have very little now

Wouldn't u feel better if we had Guhle coming PLUS a couple more guys that had a chance to be decent NHLers?

I'm not saying ALWAYS draft for need...
that's a bad idea
But in that draft...
with those players available...
and our lack of depth at the position...
and reaching for forwards at that spot...
after we had already drafted so many the previous couple drafts...
picking those defensemen would've been a no brainer

If I had just one question I could ask Murray it would be to get his reasoning behind those picks bc it just don't make any sense at all

Like I said...
most of what you're saying I agree with in general
Just not THAT draft

Damn...
that's it?!

Was hoping to get a 2nd for Franson
Doesn't look like that's happening though
I think Kulikov should still get a 2nd though...
hopefully

When you try to fix some minor problem on your ipod, end up failing and breaking two other things in the process, then try to fix the two new broken things, and end up totally killing your ipod all together. Today was a productive damn day

Playoffs? Thats not very realistic...in fact, its borderline delusional.its easy to look at the standings and say youre only 3 points back of the last wildcard spot...but you fail to realize the Sabres have played 2 extra games. Its more realistic that tampa Bay, while being 4 points behind , have a better shot because they have equal games played withToronto.
Even more realistic ( and likely) is a last placed finish in the East. Carolina is 6 points back but they have played a ridiculous 5 games less.
Also, this "progress" you speak of is skewed. You can sugar coat it all you want with all those loser points, but your team has 26 wins and 34 losses. Thats a long freaking way from .500 champ.
Having said all that your team is on the right track. You only need about 3-4 key players to round out the roster, and whatever time is needed to develop those players and you'll be in a better spot in the standings. It would be nice to have some of that high end ' Murrency' now , but you should have at least one if not 2 drafts where you pick early so taht helps.

Holy crap man wtf can we not be optimistic about our team??? You would think an oilers fan would understand given how brutal you were until mvdavid fell in your lap.

I really don't see the point of this kind of post, don't think we will make the playoffs that's fine, is it nessecary to bring us down maybe post something positive for a change

Missing 2 centers, plus Reinhart. Yeah, they sucked, but honestly they were out of gas. You've written this before, but does the schedule maker not see the irony? They need a break because the schedule is condensed for a break. So, the break created a need for itself, if that makes any sense

I post positive poop about the Sabres all the time...unfortunately it's also realistic and not as far along the rebuild as some of you want to believe so you take it as a negative.

It will be a minimum 5 year rebuild from the reinhart draft before your team is secure oh in a playoff spot. When I say that I'm not talking some TO, FLA , Calgary fluke where they make a t once and miss again. I'm talking about at least being a top team in your division. You're about 3 key players away and the only way it will happen is either through free agency or drafting and developing. GMTM doesnt have much left to trade so it's one or the other or both. Get those players and by the time Eichel and Reinhardt are in their primes this team will contend.

Positive enough?
