Kempny raising his level of play further would be HUGE for the Hawks. If he could limit those mistakes, the Hawks are pretty solid on D.

The talent is there. He needs to get his footwork straightened out. He loses his balance at times on his transition from forward to backward.

I live in Erie and have watched this kid grow up for 3 years and he has grown both as a player and as a person. The part of story that goes untold is that he was signed as a free agent by the Otters. Shocking that he was not drafted and came in with a chip on his shoulder and never looked back. Hopefully he continues to play with that edge.
- gpulvino

Similar to the lore that Kane picked 88 as his number, not because it was his birth year, but because he wanted to remind himself and others that he was selected that low in the OHL draft. He already had one chip on his shoulder from always being underestimated due to his size.

You know there's big guys in the OHL too, right?
- JRoenick97

Um yeah, but they are not even comparable...come on Minor leagues vs the Pros there JR.

He definitely need to gain some upper body strength. He has played against players bigger than him most of his life. Kid has a bit of a nasty streak. If he doesn't make it, being afraid won't be the reason.
- TTtime

Oh I don't question the kid's heart, at his size he's gotta have a HUGE desire to compete!

My point wasn't that TVR is better. My point was the writer seems to be trying fit his own narrative. In the same game there was a point when TVR had to come sliding over to block a pass because Campbell was lost.

No, TVR isn't better than Campbell. However, the gap isn't as large as some people think. IMO, TVR has better natural instincts in his own zone.

- TTtime

Yep! TVR makes some nice plays in his own right and has different strengths when compared to Campbell. TVR is better than a lot of the other guys to suit up for the Hawks on D over the last few years.

Rozsival, Scuderi, Timmonen, Svedberg, Gustafsson, Rundblad, Hendry, Boyton, Brookband, Cullimore, O'Donnell, Campoli, Kostka, Lepisto, Ehrhoff, Olsen, Erixon, Cumiskey.

I'd take TVR over what any of these guys brought to the lineup and TVR makes 825k, which ain't bad.

Some of them are going to the pros, so some are comparable.

Third-rounder is 2017. 5th is in 2018 if he re-signs in CAL. ARIZ retains 50 per cent of salary

Agreed TT, it seems when it comes to undersized players in hockey, they can either take one of two routes it seems......the more timid but I'll beat you with skill guys like TT or the kind that have both skill and grit, ala Theo Fluery. Of course, I'm leaving out the guys who never make it for lack of one or both of the components but that's a whole another story.

Me thinks guys like Debrincat would obviously get pounded into the corner by the Reaves of the league at first but then pull the old Stan Mikita, Gordie Howe and slash/spear the guy the next time he saw him just to let him know he was thinking about him......

DeBrincat finished with 2 goals and 1 assist in the 4-3 win by Erie today. He now has 51 goals and 56 assists in the 51 games he's played this season. Erie has 12 games left in the regular season.

He's not a skinny munchkin like Gaudreau. I think DeBrincat is an inch or two shorter than Gaudreau but about 15 pounds heavier. He's actually pretty solid - he's just short.
- EbonyRaptor

Debrinkat listed at 5'7", 165 lbs, and he's still growing. Size/build remind me of Stan Jonathan, who played at 5'8", 175 lbs, who nobody pushed around.

He plays a very similar game to Cam Atkinson and is similar in size. Atkinson rolling 50 points so far this season.

The goalie market will be glutted this off-season. IMO, its wistful thinking you are going to be able to move Crawford without some bad money coming back.

Other than Bishop/Elliott, I'm not seeing any big time goalies in UFA. None of those goalies have CC's resume. I disagree.

Hockey db has Debrincat listed as 5'7" and 170lbs which is the same height as Gionta and 8lbs lighter. It will be interesting to see how his off season training goes.

There are no other mediocre goalies available who've been carried by an all-star defense for their entire career?

We had three defensemen last year.
4 the entire last cup run

Also throwing out there that Crawford played in the World Cup over Holtby. Price was the only guy ahead of him on the Canadian team. He isn't average. He is very good. He is not the best but average is kind of ridiculous to me.
