First, being higher up in terms of lines on a very bad Coyotes team means very little to actual contenders, on which they're 3Cs. Second, both Hanzal 2017 and Vermette 2015 were both 'high up' on that bad team, and they have pretty similar usage and TOI. Ranks are among players who have played at least 20 games.

Vermette: 18:58 total (1st), 14:21 ev (1st), 2:44 PP (2nd), 1:41 PK (2nd)
Hanzel: 18:33 total (1st), 14:20 ev (1st), 2:56 (1st), 1:16 (4th)

They both also have 56%+ FOW and exactly the same P/60 at 5v5 with 1.22. Vermette was .05 PPG better than Hanzal, though Hanzal is actually facing higher QOC/more DZ deployment than Vermette got in his final year, and both have declining underlying numbers (Vermette more so at that point due to the extra years probably).

That is excellent work, LBR! Thanks for the deep dive -- interesting how close their numbers are.

Hey Darth...yeah wasn't too interested in them going after Stone...

I'm wondering what its going to take to get Palat at this point? I don't think they get Duchene...other teams with more to offer. And I'm hoping Stan is a hard no on moving Hartman.

- DK002

Of all the names floating around their Palat is the one that intrigues me the most when you factor in the potential of keeping him around for the long term. But for me that's a major factor - how long an acquisition sticks around.

For me guys like Hartman, Schmaltz and Forsling are 100% off the table for a short-term rental. This team needs some cost controlled quality depth for the next 2 - 3 seasons.

If Stan can find a way to keep Palat for a few years at a decent price (he's a pending RFA) then I could part with a quality asset. However, with minimal expected cap growth I don't think this is realistic. Consider that even if Panarin misses his bonuses Kruger will have to go (one way or another) to make room for #72's new contract (also factoring in losing the other $$ in dead cap space). How would another $4 million (if Palat signed for that) fit in? Not to mention increased (albeit not large) are required to keep Panik, Kero, and Rasmussen. Stan could trade Crawford, but will be save $4+ million after he signs Darling (assuming he does) and a back-up? If not the extra money needs to come by moving another piece of the core. Typically Stan doesn't make that many moves and shuffle that many players unless he absolutely has to. For this reason I think getting anything beyond a mid-level rental is highly unlikely. But I will acknowledge that Stan could surprise me an pull off a blockbuster or two.

Except Kruger has been taking very few draws since he came back. He only took 3 last night, I think after moose got tossed.

Is he nursing some kind of injury and which is why Q has him out there with Moose?

I believe Kruger was out with a hand injury, so that's likely the answer.

When we propose deals we need to think about win win.

If you make that deal...you'd probably then want to get Boyle as well in a package there.
Schmaltz playing with a ton of upside right now and being really responsible defensively.

Kruger, Kero, and 2018 1st for Palat and Boyle? Too much?

The OBVIOUS or should be sellers are :

Carolina, Detroit, NJ, Tampa Bay, Buffalo,, Vancouver, Dallas, Arizona and Colorado,

The Hawks should be able to add a F and a D man at a reasonable price in the next 7 days.

If you are going to trade Kruger it would only be to a team that really believes in analytics.

I know there is a limit on how much salary a team can retain during a trade, But could they also agree to pay that % or the total amount of any bonus. I am thinking Vrbata. Could the yotes agree to keep the max % of his salary and all or the max % of his future bonuses? I am not sure the collective bargaining agreement covers that.

Sorry....I still haven't stopped laughing about the Hawks celebrating his 100th point last night on twitter. 100 points. 100. Points.

See you guys in tomorrow....off to keep celebrating. Can't wait for 200 points.

We'll find out within the next several months whether other teams value Kruger as much as many, including JJ, do on this board. I doubt it.

Since it seems likely the Hawks will finish 2nd in the division, what would be your preference for their first round opponent: Blues or Preds? Why?

Still need a 1/2L and a 4/5D.

Min, SJ, Pgh, Was each present huge challenges this team, as constructed, would have a lot of trouble beating in a seven-game series. Secondarily, Ana, Edm, NYR and Clb each have a squad who could beat the 'Hawks.

Come on Stan, Make it happen.

I think our D is fine, but i agree on needing a quality LW. IMO i would try to get someone to play LW with Kruger and Hossa, i wouldn't touch the Toews line or the Kane line. Leave them the way they are.

I think hartman is untradable at this point. We don't have a lot of physical players and he's relatively cheap. I like Hinostroza speed and Schmaltz isn't bad has played better since coming back up. Do whatever you can to trade krugers contract now and I would give Schmaltz in the trade talks to sweeten the deal with kruger. And unfortunately we'd probably lose forsling to but I'd prefer Kempny.
So if it was forsling kruger and Schmaltz with a 2nd in 18 for Duchesne and zardov or beauchim with money retained id do it. Throw motte into if the avs want him to play with compher. And get rid of desi for brett gallant or someone tough for the ahl or a couple games in the show at the end of the year.
