Jared, you should get a trade deadline blog going......who the sens should realistically acquire, why, what it might cost, etc, etc

it's getting a little dry with only game day and post game blogs, we need something to discuss and debate. I used to love Yost's "trade wars" blogs.....you should try something like that for fun.

for my money, I'd like to see them target wither vanek or eaves. relatively cheap, can replace ryan while he's out, no long term commitment to either.

I've been surprised by eaves numbers this year. Took a look at his stats, he's had ALOT of injury trouble.

always been a good but incredibly unlucky player. can't imagine he'd cost a fortune in terms of assets and he could fill that top six RW spot for the rest of the year.

this is all assuming that stone and hoff will be back very soon.......if they're out long term then I say SELL SELL SELL

both macdonald and weise are signed to deals that go beyond the time that all our key players need to be re-signed.

also, if melnyk won't buy ryan out you can guarantee he won't buy those 2 out either. yes, the deals are 2 years shorter, but in the 3 years you have them you're actually paying out more real dollars, have a combined cap hit higher than what ryan would.......and all that for 2 players who are probably healthy scrathes on most nights. say what you will about ryan, but he CERTAINLY contributes far more to this team than either of those 2.

I have no objection to moving ryan, but not for that particular deal. if you're going to bring a bad contract back, atleast make it a bad contract on a useful player.

It's just an idea. Look at what the Leafs had to do to get rid of Phaneuf. It is turning not the same situation here

Would you rather do a deal like that to get rid of Ryan, or not be able or sign someone like Stone, Hoffman because of Ryan's deal.

A "bad contract on a useful player"... what current players would you say fit that definition?

Would you rather the Sens straight up trade Ryan, no bad contracts back, and simply pay $2-3 mill a year? What if the Vegas team would do that?

I think the diff between the phaneuf deal and what you proposed with philly is that the guys the leafs took on had no term left, it was one year of pain. amac and weise have lots of term left........so at the end of the day you're basically coming out even (except in player talent).

if amac and weise only had 1 year left on their deals then that would be much more of an appealing deal.

Good point, but the Sens obviously were interested in Phaneuf.

Is there a team that is interested in Ryan?

His value will start falling to a point where they might have to eat a McDonald AND Weise to get rid of him.
