I don't know about luck. They do have a better record than they deserve, but Boucher is a master strategist and they shut teams down. Washinton scored 4 + goals per game for a month straight and the only team to shut them down was the Sens, three times.

If Chabot and White can step in and be impact players I think they won't be too far off from being contenders. Stone has continued to improve and Dzingel has been a pleasant surprise. Worried about the expansion draft as I feel like they will probably lose Wideman who is having a solid season at both ends of the ice. I'd honestly prefer if they protected him over Ceci but I don't think management will have the balls to make that call.

It was explained pretty clearly. He isn't saying he is a generational talent YET, but he COULD be. Crosby is still the best in the league IMO, but nowhere on Gretz or Mario level. I mean Gretzky had 2000 points faster than anyone has gotten to 1000. He wasn't even 30 yet.
I am well aware the game has changed and scoring is down but Crosby isn't nearly as dominant, and I highly doubt McDavid will be either. If McD has a career like Crosby, minus the injuries, I would be ecstatic.

Crosby is great, but he's not Mario. Mario was literally unstoppable... almost 700 goals in 900 games (Many played with serious injury/post cancer or retirement)... If he had a prime we re talking 1000 goals plus... The Devils literally developed the left wing lock to deal with him and considered it a success when they held him to a point or two a night. No one was as talented as Mario (including Gretzky, who yes had a better career)...
