There is no quick fix for this team. They are simply not that good. They have to keep their prospects cause they do not have much.

And trading Galchenyuk would accomplish what exactly?

I did not say they should. My feeling is they will. Big difference.

Do these things even count as rumors.....oops, sorry.....roomers, since they are usually one sentence blurbs that almost never have player names for the return package? Never mind, that's a rhetorical question!

Oh....Well my feeling tells me they will not be trading a 23 year old F who they selected 3rd overall 5 years ago and who just came off a 30 goal season

He is be asking for 8 years $7 + mil. What do you do? Bergevin will not want to get into the same issue he had with PK's contract.

How is Subban comparable to Galchenyuk exactly?

Bergevin did not want to give PK $9 mil but was forced to. He might be in the same position negotiating with Galchenyuk. That is the parallel.

So, draft players, develop them...And trade them before their bridge deals are concluded to avoid paying them? I sure hope that's not the actual mentally in the front office!

When you do a piss poor job of developing your picks, you are stuck in a dilemma. Galchenyuk should have been playing center for the last 3 years. You live with his error throughout the development. If you are not willing to do that, send him back to junior so he can develop properly.

I agree Galchenyuk should of been playing C this whole time, he would be much better for it today... But I wouldn't say he and Subban is a failure at development, both have had success in this league and under better guidance the best is still to come for Galchenyuk

I'm not saying they are a failure either. I agree with your assessment but I do not trust Bergevin. Do you bridge him again or do you sign him to 7-8 years $7 mil?

I don't think he will be asking for that either, I kinda get the impression he might not wanna stay in Montreal that long anyway... I think that might be true for a few players on this team

I actually like Bergevin and what he has done and not done since taking over...As far as Galchenyuk's contract, I'd say if he is willing to sign in Montreal long term, it should be 6 years at around 6.5

But I don't see Galchenyuk wanting to sign long term... Media and fans in that city make it very unappealing for players to wanna sign with the Habs, that along with weather and taxes make this market near the bottom of desired destinations

Couldn't you take out the Habs from your comment and insert any Canadian team with the same challenges of weather, taxes, and media spotlight?

To a certain extent... Montreal has higher taxes then any other NHL city and fans and media can be downright ignorant, you can even see it on these boards at times, Hab fans seem to always go a little further or maybe I should say a little lower

I can only really compare the Habs fan base to Ottawa/Toronto in terms of people I've actually been around. I've always thought Montreal had a disproportionately large number of chest-thumping fans who don't pay much attention to the sport. By no means do I think it's important for people to care about hockey in the slightest and I can see some fun in getting out there to support the team in that manner, but that poop grinds my gears.

If Duchene were to come in, Galchenyuk is on his way out and his party buddy Beaulieu will be along his side.
- Champ

Yep. Only way we're getting Duchene is if Galchenyuk goes the other way. I wouldn't mind that, Duchene is a bit better although they're both pretty close. Duchene is a couple years older but he can play defense and actually take a face off.
