He's no Virtanen, that's for sure

Yeah will be sad when little Marner gets crunched next season strippped of the puck and JV rips one in. A scenario I will remind you of why making a negative call on a young player can come back to bite.

It might be actually

I mean it's great for him and he's having a freakin great rookie season but the Calder race is over in my mind, it's not close.

Considering all factors, Matthews is having probably the best rookie season of any player in the last decade.

The joke is, Virtanen is such a bad player that he will be in the ECHL, and won't play against Marner.

I really like Werenski and think Matthews is getting more promo value bc he's on the Leafs instead of the Blue Jackets. That, and its hard to be a good D-man, nevermind become a top pairing D-man in your first NHL year.

Laine, unless he does something amazing, unfortunately fell behind since the injury. That and a bunch of his goals seem to be empty netters, while also not being very good defensively. On top of all that, he's playing with a solid top line of non-rookies, vs Matthews 3rd line of all AHL rookies.

I think the final voting will be Matthews vs Werenski.

JV scoring in the AHL will have no impact on Marner playing in the NHL...

10 points in 39 AHL games... compare with Nylander, Ehlers or Larkin. Good thing that Benning is good at drafting...

I do agree with you on Werenski, he's really damn good, but I don't think he's a challenger either.

He's around 55% of his points coming from the PP, only has 9 points since Xmas and he's been playing with Jones more often than not (and with a higher percentage of OZ starts too).

Frankly, you can put Zaitsev against him pretty favourably, let alone Matthews!

Zaitsev - 26P, 8 PPP, 49% Corsi, 22:23 ATOI, 2:05 APPTOI, 44% OZS

Werenski - 33P, 18 PPP, 53% Corsi, 21:11 ATOI, 2:53 APPTOI, 55% OZS

Dont mind adding a younger depth winger for a guy who was not going to really make it as anything more than a desperation call up. Loov wasn't a Shanaplan pick either so they keep moving out the old and in with the new.

Have to wonder if it is Landeskog, though I have a feeling Ek as usual is off and it would be Dutch coming instead. IF they make such a move it is because Nylander is going to be a winger. Would not mind a middle of Matthews, Dutch, Kadri, and Goat. Nylander and Marner on the wings, likely Kapanen or one of the young wingers move up top 6, and Lou likely pulls off something for the back end defence. Think Bozak and JVR know they are going to get moved at some point here.

Lou never really tips his hand so just sit back and wait and see what they do.

I forget who it was (it wasn't you), but somebody said that I was out of my mind to suggest that Werenski would be in Calder contention at the end of the year.

For whoever that was, this is your regular reminder to suck it
