The only one gone off of that list is Hall..... just saying
Nurse and Klef are hardly "elite" - Reveen.
Drai is just on way to become Elite, Eberle and RNH not even close, McJesus is the only Elite player, Hall is a good player but not Elite but I do agree that the Oilers lost the trade with the Devils just base on value for now, but is a win trade for the Oilers as a team because.....well lest just look at the standings this season so far.
The D is improve but not one from that group is Elite. |

You think without having the luxury of all those guys it would have been different? He had the luxury of having a lot of high end assets to make deals his predecessors didn't. And he had the luxury of having Nurse and Klef and Drai come in after getting some proper development. A luxury no one before him had. - Iggysbff
But Chiarelli has done what our past GMs were entirely incapable of: adding a supporting cast. Ignoring his big 3 moves for Larsson, Talbot and Lucic, he's added Maroon, Caggiula, Letestu, Kassian, Sekera, Benning, Russell, Gryba, Reinhart (*sad trombone*) and a bunch of solid looking prospects (draft and college UFAs). He has beyond competently identified skilled depth to support a roster full of youth which is something incredibly valuable to building a competitive team. He deserves a whole lot of credit for this. |

Besides Lord Larsson of course. He is beyond anything we have ever seen...
Without Lord Larsson, this team is not in a playoff position right now... Actually, without Lord Larsson, the Oilers probably would have folded by now. And Rogers Place... Do you think that place would have been built if Lord Larsson wasn't coming to town? The Oilers KNEW years in advance that Lord Larsson was going to become an Oiler. |

Did you know that the last 1310 games the Oilers have won, their record is 1310 - 0 - 0... Insane isn't it? |

Never said anything about perennial. But they made the playoffs the year before we got him. - Iggysbff
One year. The team has only made the playoffs twice in their history. Calling them a playoff team is a bit of a misnomer when laying them in the company of the other team discussed. |

Best young talent ? Clearly outside of Edmonton Hall, RNH and Eberle didn't and still don't hold much value around the league. He came into a team with no goaltending, a horrid blueline and little to no forward depth. Not to mention they were softer than Jero's cock in front of Kate Upton.
How is turning them into a playoff team (frank)ing it up ? - Reveen.
I appreciate your work here |

The easiest job in history!?
This is a squad that hadn't done better than 3rd last in six seasons save a lockout shortened one where they finished 6th last
Now you know I don't blame mact like so many do, I want to be clear abou that.
but the fact is pc took over what was maybe the worst franchise in North American sports over the last decade. An embarrassment in pretty much every sense of the word. The joke of the league pretty much.
He came into Connor no doubt (which has somehow become a mark against him in your eyes it seems) but the rest of said core were pretty much on the verge of being broken as a group. if they weren't already.
The oilers turning it around was anything but a foregone conclusion. While I think he lost the hall trade in pure value, there is absolutely no doubt chiarelli has a hand in changing the style and culture of the oilers. Which we were absolutely desperate for. A style and culture that is vastly superior to any iteration of this franchise over the last decade.
I'll consider it all a failure if we don't get an extended window of a being a contender.
But as of today- by his second season- and considering the results we're getting in relation to the abomination we got in the past?
Resounding success - HB77
I think a little what is lost here is the Oilers are better but the Pacific as a whole is having an off year. I didn't expect the Kings, Ducks and Sharks all to just kind of be treading water. Actually the Kings are slowly drowning with Kopitars lack of offence. |

Most of those guys are still here, they were a luxury that previous management teams also had, but never propelled the team forward.
Like it or not it is this current management team that is completing this team and finally making a step forward.
And before you try and twist it, I didn't dislike MacT. I think he was given a mandate to build the team in a certain way and made bad mistakes along the way. They needed to remove him because he was becoming more ineffectual. |

The Pacific used to be a really strong division, but the Kings, Ducks and Sharks all have aging cores that have been together for a while. They were all bound to lose a step. Even Chi has lost a step compared to previous years and the Blues as well.
I think it is just a natural changing of the guard, in a way. Those are all still the best teams in the conference. |

The past decades regime is all getting older, and the younger talent isn't really there. Not yet anyways. The winds of change are starting to blow in the NHL. Witness the rise of the Wild and Blue Jackets. |

We are witnessing their last years of primacy. They all had success and won championships, but Father Time gets us all in the end. |

The kings are the only team really struggling. The other two Cali teams are relative to where they were last year.
San Jose is only 1 point out of 2nd in the conference with edm and Anaheim right behind them.
A few years ago, sure the pacific was a beast, but this doesn't negate how vastly improved the oilers are.
Hell, they even have a winning record against the central |
