Considering the reaction around the league after both the Hall and Seguin trades, I'd say he didn't do much of a job of maximizing his asset, yes. - BINGO!
From media and fans ?
Meh.
what do they know about who chiarelli spoke with ?
I particularly like that pc has never bothered to mention the fact that in both instances, his team was significantly better the season after making those deals
As far as maximizing assets, your opinion is Guess work. He very well may have gotten the most he could've. We can assume whatever we like, but there's certainly nothing definitive to show.
However, I have heard that nyi turned down hall for hamonic!! Debateably better , but not in a whole other echelon superstar type. And since they reportedly said no to that one one could reasonably draw the conclusion that with Larsson, pc did in fact get the best return possible
I wish we still had hall, but there is no way the organization was gonna go into another season without acquiring a difference maker on the backend. Like not an option at all |

There is way too much crazy to pick through here so let's go with the easiest one and say Talbot was acquired by Chiarelli. Fact checking is your friend sir

And yours as well.
Go watch the interview of Glen Sather after the trade. He says he was honouring the deal he had in place with Mact at the trade deadline.

But luckily talbot plays for the oilers so his inclusion in my statement goes without saying .

Based on current levels of play, I'd say Edmonton is notably superior at C (Backlund over Nuge is the only matchup Calgary wins), Flames are a good deal superior on the wings (Gaudreau Vs Eberle and Tkachuck Vs Puljujarvi tip the scales hard), the Flames get the edge on D (better high end, weaker depth) while Edmonton gets a notable lead in goal. |

1st day of deadline word out was rangers wanted Talbot for a 2nd and a 3rd. That doesn't seem like a pre honoured deal |

Lol. I hate Chiarelli because he continually makes bad move after bad move. Period. If and when he ever makes a good deal I will acknowledge it. I did say Maroon has turned out to be a very good move. And Sekera a good move. The rest are somewhere between poop and diarhhea. - Iggysbff

You should really stop. Because he's. The rest are poop. Benning and Cagg are OK but nothing great so far. And guess who also put those deals in motion? Oh yeah that assistant gm guy.
Russell sucks. Kassian is a fourth line moron. Talbot was done by Mact. McLellan was in place before Chia started. There has been talk of the Oilers and the connection to Benson for years. And he hasn't done anything yet so I'm not sure why you think that's so great. Larsson for Hall was bad not just from a value stand point but because we are STILL looking for a top pair rh dman that has a two way game.
Your not too bright so it's no surprise you can't figure all of this out.

50 odd games as an Oiler and everyone already passes final judgement. Asides from a couple of career years in Boston, he's not trending much different than his usual. Despite having not played with McD for some time he's still 4th in team pts., 2nd in hits and is a beast along the half boards. Anyone who thought he would get 70+ pts. this year was either dreaming or high. Only thing I don't like about him is the term of his contract. Otherwise, it's all pretty much what I thought. |

Do you have a Mac-T blow up doll ?
Chiarelli chose to complete that deal, he was in no way obligated to do so. Mac-T may have laid the ground work but it was Chiarelli that pulled the trigger. |

Looking back through this Trump of a thread, it seems like a lot of other teams fans (Leafers no less!) understand , the situation better than a lot of Oilers fans do. I'm sure we all wish that Looch was playing like 2010-12 Looch but wish in one hand and sh it in the other and see which one fills up first. He's providing a lot of value in a lot of places and continues to play his game even when getting busted down to the bottom 6, not female doging once. Team is having a season beyond what any of us expected and yet certain people just can't seem to accept it and still have to vaginarage about something. It drives me nuts. |

Some people just want to be angry. The Oilers current situation isn't ideal, but a great many of their "mistakes" are blown way out of proportion. |

I don't think some can. Its like the last ten years have become the status quo. They just keep waiting for the wheels to fall off. |

I agree 100%, but they're on track for a 100 pt. season right now when many predicted they would still be a bubble team and likely land outside the dance. Not just that, they have a nasty attitude beyond what I could have hoped for. It's literally like watching a different team, and in only a years time.
Nuge and Ebs are having down years. The D is still a work in progress. Still occasionally get pinned in their zone. Zone exits/entries still stutter at times. Special teams can be inconsistent. Bottom 6 could score more. Etc.
Great thing is, these are problems many teams with winning records have, and thats why good teams are always making moves. The NHLs best are rarely static. They have the depth now to let prospects develop and not rush them up to fill holes from injury. They have a team that actually looks like it belongs in the playoff convo. |
