Last NHL game I played was 08. I used to love siming the seasons as a GM. The most consistent trends were that
1. OV and Crosby immediately suck and never get 100 points for some reason.
2. The Rocket Richard becomes a 4 person race year after year between Michael Grabner, Marian Gaborik, Rick Nash and Dany Heatley.
3. The best goalie in the game is an added player and is the 6 year old daughter of one of the developers and CAN NOT be taken out of the game. So you have to (frank)ing pick them every time.

I think I had that edition, if I remember correctly. On my Leafs teams, Chad Kilger was consistently a generational talent. Those teams I had that were built around a core of Sundin, Forsberg, Pronger, Kilger and Gord Downie were just unstoppable. |

With expansion looming the Ducks also need to protect Bieksa, Fowler, Lindholm, and Vatanen. Meaning they can only protect four forwards, so they will lose one of Silfverberg or Rackell for nothing.
Perhaps it's not too outlandish to think that the Ducks would move a Vatanen for JVR so they can protect one more player. Unless they entertain the idea of buying out Bieksa, which seems like a stretch for a budget team.

there has got to be an avenue whereby the Leafs take Bieksa off Anaheim's hands - which would cost Anaheim something.
such an approach would allow Anaheim to protect all of their key young guys going forward...
