You need to change who is the center piece in the deal for the Flyers to even get a conversation started with Edmonton and asking for Draisatl - MJL
Interesting.
Anything other than Provorov get it done? |

Man. Simmonds + Ghost and the 1st rounder for the next 15 years.
And still no chance.

See this is where I worry.
Building to be a contender, future, etc, etc we are all for.
If that is truly what you are doing, then why not fully rebuild - and get those higher draft picks instead of trying to stay foolishly competitive? Is the club really planning on relying on this forward core when the defensive prospects are ready? I'd (frank)ing hope not. What I am getting at, is I dont believe they will find the required star power for the offense drafting 10th year after year. Its not in the system.
Hence why I propose a deal centered around Simmonds for Draisaitl, with other pieces involved. Future boys, future. - flyer_nutter
The age for the forwards is a real concern. However, while drafting higher gets you a better chance it doesn't guarantee anything (see JVR).
At some point in the future, I'm guessing they trade one of the young D for a proven forward. I don't believe it will be Provorov. The other guys have to prove their NHL players first to get an NHL forward back.

Holmgren and Hextall are in charge of the day to day hockey operations.
Dave Scott is the President/CEO of Comcast Spectacor - MJL
Strange 2 guys with completely different philosophies are both in charge of day to day ops. |

None of that would do much for this team. There is no guarantee that Grabner would've been as successful here. What about Brassard for Zibanaejad? - MJL
Grabner would have improved the PK, team speed, bottom 6, aside from the unpredictable goals.
They bought what, 5 years moving Brassard for Mika?
It's an attempt to change.
Christ, we've never accepted mediocrity like we do now.
GM's job isn't just to stand pat, its the ability to do something creative, at least its something. |

If this team largely returns next season with only 2-3 rookies added to the mix that is a fail in my eyes.
If you are willing to sit in purgatory and do nothing, then sell off some pieces of value and commit fully to the future. Rather have a top 3 pick instead of picking 10th. - flyer_nutter
Wouldn't you like to have a job where you had an unlimited amount of time on a project, and no one above you questions a (frank)ing thing?
It's ok, and understanding if you just wait years, and just draft, and draft, and that's it. That's asking a lot of the season ticket holders to accept while continue spending, and spending.
Remember years ago the fans were critical about the teams ability to never win a cup, and Snider said, (not an exact quote), "at least we can, and will compete every year".
Something like that.
Did you not get the feeling that the coach was getting irritated talking to the season ticket holders? Like he was too good to answer such stupid questions, like he was just annoyed doing it?
Like, "I'm the coach, and your not", kind of attitude. |

There is no guarantee that Grabner would've had the same success here as he has had in NY. Secondly, you're not considering that Grabner was a UFA. He has to want to play for your team. You also don't know that the Flyers could've pulled off the trade for Zibanejad. I'm not sure who you think is accepting mediocrity. I don't see an effective argument here.
What Hextall is trying to do is going to take some patience. I understand the frustration. The worse thing Hextall could do is to overreact to what is and has happened this season. Stay the course and stick to the plan. |

Somebody else said it. Once we sell off we're going to go on a run last 10 games. 12th pick is firmly in the crosshairs

The only thing I want to see him do between now and the deadline is move as many Veteran UFA's as possible and let a few kids get their feet wet at the NHL level. |

I'd say this. I am in line with making drastic changes to this club - particularly the offense. Probably more than most. I am not in line with doing it at this time however. The best time for such moves in my eyes is at the draft or in the summer.
In terms of selling, by all means... The team should take whatever it can get for MDZ, Streit, Schultz, and Read/Weise - although I think interest will be very limited in the last 2 names.
I dont think there should be any untouchables up front in the quest to find young top tier talent. I just make the bigger moves in a few months instead of now.
