The Flyers are getting very little back for MDZ and Streit in my eyes. Or any of the bottom 6 for that matter.

Not sure how you can list drafting as a part of that combination and then say the Flyers are doing nothing when they have done a great job drafting over the past few seasons.
Not gonna disagree with the other 2 but I have no issues with how they have drafted over the past 4 years or so. - opeth_pa
I mean a combination of all of these, while staying at a competitive level.
Honestly, I'm getting sick of this whole method of standing pat.
Grabner was out there, so was Pumpel, (spelling?).
How about the Brassard, for Zibanejad?
Still think Couturier is going to be Bergeron?
We may settle for Hanzel now.
These are shrewd moves, the kind we used to see in Philly, not the stubborn poopb wen have to accept now.
Really, where is the vision? What do they see a few years from now?

Who is Hextalls boss now that Snider is gone?
Who is in charge if the product is not going in the direction they wish?
Not saying this is all his fault, he inherited a lot of issues, but if the current direction is not going in the desired direction, who's the Snider now? |

Galchenyuk is as much a center as Brayden Schenn is probably. Who is as much a center as favorite son Duchene is ideally.
Always love to see names thrown blindly into the mix. |

I think they'll get back less than they would in an ideal situation (i.e. Streit was performing better and MDZ was healthy all season). But then again, in that ideal situation, the Flyers might be playing better and holding on to them.
Every year we see the price of rentals being ridiculous. Kimmo went for a 2nd and a conditional 4th in a deeper draft. Some of the "experts" think we'll see more 1sts get moved this year since the draft class supposedly isn't as good. I think Streit could yield a 2nd, at worst a 3rd, and same with MDZ. And I'd gladly take those picks for them unless they plan on extending MDZ (which I doubt as of now and I'd just take the pick and worry about attempting to sign him come July 1 if they want him back). |

None of that would do much for this team. There is no guarantee that Grabner would've been as successful here. What about Brassard for Zibanaejad?

Holmgren and Hextall are in charge of the day to day hockey operations.

Like i said...complain about trades or free agent signings but I have 0 issues with how they have been drafting.
I dont know that we ever really saw shrewd signings here. We saw an organization that was trying to win , in the way they thought best, at all costs regardless of the logic of that signing. To this point I dont think Hexy has done a great job at signing or trading players. I hope be changes that opinion.

I do think this two angled approach of trying to stay competitive while trying to rebuild may bite them in the ass. Instead of giving everything for the future and trying to have the team peak/grow as a whole. It remains to be seen what happens but I do have some doubt.
As for making moves... I think we all agree that we dont want to see any more deals like Kubina. Do think this summer is a big one for Hextall, and while I am a supporter, he will annoy me if he does nothing except add Lindblom and Hagg/Morin to the roster.
The bottom 6 in particular, needs to be fixed. |

I'd say the Hartnell trade was a mistake. He's done well getting rid of some of the dead weight contracts.
He has not done well in FA in my eyes. Still believe in him, but do think he needs to do something more this summer. |

I believe Hextall already said it was going to be another quiet summer as far as Free Agents. |

If this team largely returns next season with only 2-3 rookies added to the mix that is a fail in my eyes.
If you are willing to sit in purgatory and do nothing, then sell off some pieces of value and commit fully to the future. Rather have a top 3 pick instead of picking 10th. |

I like what Hextall is doing, but the Hartnell trade was an epic failure. I think Hartnell could have been helpful here the last couple of years.
I don't believe he will add any significant FAs until he thinks the team is really ready to be a contender. |

You can see it as a fail and many wouldn't disagree. However, he's doing exactly what he said he was going to do. Hopefully, they are rewarded with long run of being a contender. |

I really think Hartnell was influenced by Berube, as in the trade itself.
I didnt disagree with the idea of trading Hartnell, that contract scared me but to swap him for a rotting Umberger (who the Jackets were considering buying out themselves) was dumb.
Not talking significant FA's, but that bottom 6 in particular can be fixed via a smart dip in FA or smaller trades. The status quo is insulting. |

I dont have a problem with that...1 amazing free agent this season would not have made a difference...in 2-3 years from now if we are having this discussion then something is very wrong. |

See this is where I worry.
Building to be a contender, future, etc, etc we are all for.
If that is truly what you are doing, then why not fully rebuild - and get those higher draft picks instead of trying to stay foolishly competitive? Is the club really planning on relying on this forward core when the defensive prospects are ready? I'd (frank)ing hope not. What I am getting at, is I dont believe they will find the required star power for the offense drafting 10th year after year. Its not in the system.
Hence why I propose a deal centered around Simmonds for Draisaitl, with other pieces involved. Future boys, future. |

They tried it this year and it just hasn't worked out well. I'm guessing Hextall does something similar this year and hopefully it works out better.
I'm also guessing Laughton stays with the Phantoms the rest of the year, and gets one last shot next year to show he can be a bottom six player. Leier may get that shot as well. |

Here is the issue I have. You're constantly criticizing.the entire organization for what they do, which is certainly your right, then you propose a ridiculous trade premise. |

Educate?
Just something for the hell of it as I'm heading out for the day - I've wondered for a bit of time. Do you work for the organization in any capacity? Honest question.

You need to change who is the center piece in the deal for the Flyers to even get a conversation started with Edmonton and asking for Draisatl |
