So it was interesting that you brought up Barzal because I'd been thinking about a deal for him for a little while. He's probably one of the more realistic trade targets based on Garth Snow's job status and their current playoff position. If the Islanders were open to Schenn for Barzal+first (I would even lottery protect it for this season if they wanted) then the Flyers should jump on that.

I read through that deal in my head and think it just sounds like an actual trade after the expansion draft. 55-60 point 25 year old winger signed for 3 more years for A- level prospect+mid 1st. The Islanders want to keep JT; they want to please him. Their NHL wingers are not up to par after letting Okposo go and Ladd busting. I don't think they have that answer in-system right now for the next few years at least. It helps both teams AND Garth and Hexy have a friendship. It's intra-divisional but still makes sense. That's a chance at acquiring a top 6 center + another quality mid 1st player + our own probable top 10 pick. It would be a fantastic trade for the future.

Another thought I had. Let's say Nico goes #2 and a team like Dallas or Vancouver or Arizona or Winnipeg gets the pick....teams who could spare it in a weaker draft and maybe want depth and have a #1 center already....if the Flyers draft top 10, trading up to #2 isn't crazy. That's the type of deal where moving a roster player we've mentioned with the pick could be franchise changing.

I would take Hischier #1. Consolidating assets, sure, but if we're talking franchise level talent, it's worth considering.

I also worry Hextall has none of this stuff in his plans or thoughts.

I'm watching jackets/pens and I'm seeing big and fast skaters or smaller skaters that are fast with skill. Teams with players that look to get to the net, and these players aren't swarmed upon immediately because they have a fear of the other team's breakaway ability.

The flyers don't have the horses to compete with them...plain and simple imo

Just doesn't happen unless they don't have picks for the current year. Like I said yesterday to someone, drafts balance out by the 3rd+ range anyway.

the scoring may come back to earth but they are a good team thanks to Bob and a good defense. werenski-Jones, Johnson-Savard and Murray-Nutivaara. they are doing quite well with Brandon freakin Dubinsky as their top center.
