I really don't think Giroux is going anywhere nor do I think we at the point where he should be forced out of town. However, Ottawa's owner has been pretty vocal recently about how they're ready to contend and want to go for it.. I think they would be a solid trade partner and somewhere Giroux would probably waive for. |

Btw I did an expansion draft on cap friendly.com. It's laid out real easy you can simulate whose protected on what teams do the list of available players on each team is there right away. A lot of fun drafted a decent team that's probably better than the flyers. Certainly a deeper team - Just5
there are teams like Anaheim and Boston who are going to lose a decent player. the Pens, unless Fleury lifts his NMC, will lose Murray. going to be interesting. |

there is no reason for them to try and get older and more expensive at center - YuenglingJagr
Yes, because I said they should do Giroux for Trocheck straight up. |

At worst, the Pens will buy out MAF. |

I am actually starting to think Leier gets protected over Raffl.
Raffl is almost living in Vandevelde territory. - J35Bacher
Raffl is a much better player than both. If Leier was at that level, he would be on the NHL team and signed to a multi year one way deal rather than Raffl. |

Good 2-way player, has some hands, one year left at $3.5M...definitely could be picked up. - jmatchett383
wouldn't surprise me at all if he is the one taken or Raffl if left unprotected. |

I think Ottawa and Montreal both work.
I also think you could take back a bad short term deal to make a trade work.

The answer to the phone call should be changed from "sorry he is unavailable" to " I'm listening". |

As long as it's not Bobby Ryan, who may be the worst contract in the NHL. |

Wouldn't it be hilarious if they accidentally protected MacDonald and left Gostisbehere exposed |

No. That would be the exact opposite of hilarious. |

Ottawa has ample cap space, and with the contract prorated over the rest of the season, they could afford him. I'd offer G for their 1st and see just how desperate they are to pull off a big move.

I said almost.
Also Raffl is 28 compared to a 23 year old Leier.
Raffl had one great season with 21 goals. This year He has the same amount of points as Vandevelde while playing on a top line most of the season.
I didn't say he is vandevelde. But he is in that territory right now. |

Agreed. They have a couple other bad contracts that aren't nearly as bad as Ryan's.

and somehow with Phaneuf and Ryan's contracts they still don't have cap issues. |

Raffl has looked like crap over the last few weeks. He's been playing like a generic 4th liner. |

you said giroux raffl and a first...raffl and a first are just salad dressing on that deal. you dont trade Trochek for Giroux and you dont trade Trochek for a 1st. There's no justification |

You have to remember that before they added those 2 deals, they were only a bit above the cap floor. |

I would take back the MacArthur contract(LTIR right now) if it got me Logan brown. If they are so win now then Brown would be someone I target. They would then have Giroux, Brassard and Turris down the middle. |

Not sure what you could get, though. At most. Brassard, as I don't think you'd get a prospect like White or Chabot, and Stone probably stays. |

A top-10 first-rounder is just "salad dressing?" I hope the Flyers trade for some more dressing at the TDL. |
