Yep. If he gets traded, I don't care what he does if it improves the Flyers in the long run.

Yea, Couterier number one Center sounds good

I don't see what that has to do with what I said, but okay.

If you trade Giroux who is your #1 Center?

For the rest of the year, sure.

The goal is to find another center. Use picks and defense depth to find one. move up in draft and draft one.

Right now Giroux isn't playing like a number one center.

I don't know. The Flyers don't have a #1 center right now.

I wouldn't, personally. It's fair value for sure, but I think that Wayne Simmonds is second to Provorov on the most untouchable list (using only NHL players). If I'm trading Simmonds, I'm adding pieces to trade up, not taking more pieces and trading down.
- jmatchett383

IMO, there are very few true untouchables on this team. Probably just Provorov at this point. It all depends on what is coming back. Hell, even Provorov could be on the table, but it would take McJesus coming back.

If they traded him right this second without acquiring another center, Couturier or Schenn. But I never said they should trade him this instant for a prospect who's 2-3 years away. Also, if they had to go with Couturier as their top center (I think they'd put Schenn there, personally) for a quarter season and wanted to address it in the offseason, I'd be okay with it as long as the return aimed to make them better in the long run.

I just mean in the sense that we were complaining Lavy had them playing a system they weren't equipped to play.
- nastyflyergirl

Yes. He was stubborn. He didn't have the players to fit his system. That is equally on Holmgren as it is on Laviolette.

Giroux is miles from being a #1 center right now. Couturier, with all his warts, is a much better player at ES than Giroux at this point.

There are very few players I'd trade Provorov for.

What I meant by Simmonds being 2nd most untuchable is that I wouldn't be trading him for a bunch of middle-six players. He's a fairly unique player, and if I'm trading him, it's for a young, bonafide top-line forward minimum, not a package of middle-six players and prospects.

I agree that they would put Schenn there and this isnt the worst idea but I honestly feel that with some prospects and young D we will be ok the next few years. And G will be fine.

I thought Couturier played well last night.

If I needed Couturier or Schenn to play the rest of the season as a top line center so be it. As long as I get what I want out of a Giroux deal.

And maybe he will be.

But your also going to eventually re up Simmonds and Gostisbehere and Provorov.

Is fine good enough at an 8million cap hit?

For me I need better then fine at that amount.

Hoping Cap goes up, Provy gets a 3-4 year bridge, Simmer takes a discount, Ghost is hurting his value lol. Some ifs in there

By the time this team is ready to compete for a Cup, here are the current players that I think will still be on the roster:

Goal: none

Defense: Provorov for sure, and Ghost if he isn't traded before then.

Forwards: Couturier and Konecny are probably here and maybe Cousins is a 4th line center. Jake will probably still be here, he's big and can skate and those guys last a long time. Simmonds, may be here if extended, but I think it's more likely he gets traded before they are true contenders.

It's gonna be at least another 3 years boys. Hexy knows Dmen don't usually hit their primes til there mid 20s and goalies the same or even later. He has a deep pool of top prospects to fill those needs all set to go. He'll now look to start loading up on skilled forwards who develop faster and can fill in the top 6 in 3 or 4 years. I understand what he's doing, it's just difficult from a fan's perspective to wait.

It even, to some degree, explains his hiring of Hakstol. I think he is here to set a foundation of 200 foot play for the younger players as they break in. If he can do that, and evolve as a better game day coach, perhaps he's still here when they reach the top. If not, he'll likely be out after his 3rd or 4th season, and the guy that Hexy thinks can get them to a Cup will be brought in.

Patience, easy to say, not so easy to do.
