I'm guessing this is the source. http://www.hockeybuzz.com...Bolts-TalkingBuzz/1/83072

With Parayko exempt, seems far more likely we'll protect 2 LHD and 1 RHD than the other way around.
- Antilles

Gunnarson likely gets exposed, my guess is we lose him. The other guys I see Vegas taking a hard look at are Reaves/Brodziak, though I'm not sure if putting together a real 4th line will be part of their game plan.

No, I meant source for him saying Shats IS a Penguin. Eklund saying Shatty might be a Penguin counts as my source that he isn't & won't be.

I think that guy is enjoying some time in an alternate universe where Eklund has a better track record.

Yeah, I expect to lose either Gunnar, or one of Jaskin/Yakupov/PRV. Reaves and Brodziak are too old for a team that isn't going to be good for years, a young guy who might thrive in the right situation seems like the obvious take.

We'll protect Statsny, Steen, Schwartz, Tarasenko, Perron, possibly Lehtera... just no way we protect all of our young, fringe guys.

Not sure if anyone has already posted this but it's a nice little tool for looking at the expansion draft. http://planmyteam.com/NHL/ProtectPlayers?teamid=25

The way I see it we protect
Steen, Stastny, Schwartz, Tank, Perron (5 of 7 forwards)
Petro, J-Bo, Edmundson
Allen

After that we can protect 2 of Jaskin, Lehtera, Brodziak, Yakupov, Reaves, Paajarvi.

I'd protect Lehtera, unless we have a way to replace him. Vegas won't have many options at center. Brodziak might be worth protecting for that same reason.

Gunnarson, and likely Bortuzzo end up exposed on the back end.

Are Agostino, Barbashev, and Megan all exempt. Apparently Parayko is so no need to worry there.

I guess for defense protect Petro, Shatty,(if he is still with us) and Edmundson. Sucks leaving Bortuzzo unprotected as a team like Vegas looking for grit on the blue line might take him. At least we know we can only lose 1 player. Does vegas get 1 player from every team? thats 30 players. some fill the ahl team i guess? Do they even have one yet?

Forwards i have no idea how many we can even protect but we know the obvious ones. Leave Stastny open and let him know that if he is taken we will talk with him the next year, or is that kind of thing frowned upon? cough cough Tkachuk, Weight

From the mock drafts I've seen Vegas could be fairly strong on the wings, so Jaskin/Yak/PRV probably aren't worth while.

I'm not sure if Agostino will be exempt or not, according to the website I posted above, he needs to play 34 more games to require protection. I don't know if that includes playoffs.

Barbashev, Megan and Fabbri are all exempt.

Stastny gets taken for sure, I'd rather lose Gunnar.

Tough call for the last 2 forwards. Id say a 3 man race. Lehtera, Brodziak, and Paajarvi. Paajarvi might flourish under Yeo. He has matured more after going back to the AHL and is worth seeing for a full regular playing time season if his last few games are any indication. Lehtera, well we are weak up the middle and his chemistry on the 3rd line seemed to spark his play before the Stastny injury. Brodziak, kills penalties and can protect Fabbri to a certain extent. Reaves will not be taken by Vegas. I just don't see that happening. An enforcer in a non enforcer league. He has become a much better all around player though.

Defense: look at my post above

Then for Agostino scratch him a couple of times just to make sure his is not in need of protection. We have Yakupov and Jaskin biting on the chomp for some ice time. Thats an easy solution right there.

Yes Id rather lose Gunnar than Stastny. Damn i just wish Stastny made 4.5 a year instead of the inflated contract. Then he might be one of my favorites.

Megan and Agostino are not exempt no matter what happens since season. Over 2 seasons of 10 or more games in AHL or NHL makes you available.

You must be right on that one, I don't see how they would be exempt, I was just going by the website (http://planmyteam.com/NHL/ProtectPlayers?teamid=25)

So on these boards there are talks of Shatty for Pouliot. Pens need defense. any thoughts? I don't know anything about this guy at all.

Straight up? In Pens fans dreams. We have better, younger defensive prospects already; he might be lost in the expansion draft. Even Pouliot plus a first; guessing we could get better elsewhere.

that seems to be the rumors out on their board. i heard ek was saying pens called the blues today about shatty...........

obviously not a done deal so?

Army does seem to be shooting for the sky on a trade for Shatty. My best guess is he walks away a free agent at the end. Hopefully he is trying to trade JBo and resign Shatty. Our PP runs around him and not Petro. I like the idea of Parayko sliding into the circle are for a 1 timer but thats not what we are talking about.

Who could we possibly trade and get prospects or draft picks for to lessen our pay load in order to resign Shatty and not lose much? Gunnar comes to mind but its not enough cap room there. At this point i would be willing to trade Lehtera, Yakupov, and i think thats it. Steen is a great all around player. Burgled is finally healthy and we should expect more of THIS type of play from him. Maybe cut Paajarvi but i think he is a minimal contract right? Find room anywhere you can to KEEP Shatty. maybe buyout JBO if that makes room

The 34 games is how many more he would need to fit the minimum exposure requirements. Really not applicable as we already will have two other forwards meet these.

Cap Friendly has a great tool to play around with.

https://www.capfriendly.com/expansion-draft

https://www.capfriendly.com/expansion-draft-faq

Minimum Exposure Requirements
Teams must expose a minimum number of players that meet the following criteria for selection in the upcoming Expansion Draft:

Forwards 2

played in 40 or more NHL games last season, OR
played in 70 or more NHL games in the last two seasons
Defense 1
under contract in 2017-18, AND
played in 40 or more NHL games last season, OR
played in 70 or more NHL games in the last two seasons
Goalies 1
under contract in 2017-18, OR
who’s contract is expiring & is an RFA in 2017-18

I'm guessing he misunderstood Grosso (think that is his name).

Rumor is the Pens have offered Derrick Pouliot and a 2nd for Shatty.

In a way the deal makes a lot of sense. A cost controlled LD prospect and a pick for Shatty. I wonder if which year the pick (the Blues not likely wanting it to be this year's draft) is one of the stick points or the round.

Armstrong should know Pouliot well or know people who know him well from all his Canada U20 and under play.

Maybe the pick and return is conditional in case Shatty signs with them? With Daley coming off the books, if they can trade Fleury, they might have the space for Shattenkirk.

I'm not sure we'll do better than Pouliot and a 2018 1st. The key would be moving into the 2018 draft based on the chatter I have heard about the 2017 draft.
