McD will get what he asks....Will he ask for that? I don't think he will.

I think and hope that he's of the Crosby and Tavares mold where he'll take a discount to help his team build around him. He'll still be among the highest paid in the league, but I doubt he (frank)s the team enough that they don't have a chance to build a competitor. Asking for 11+ million would hurt this team a lot- especially considering the lack of cap increase.

I have no idea if he will or not. But you know the Union will be pushing him to get as much as possible. I bet it's at least 10 AAV.

I don't see how the union overall gains anything from pushing for his hit to be higher in a time where there's a flat salary cap. All they'd be doing is taking away money from other players. If the highest contract in the league was Crosby's at 8.7 million, do you think guys like Parenteau and Stempniak would go through a summer unsigned only to be forced to take a near-1mil contract? I doubt it.

Saw an article today suggesting McDavid will get 8 years 97 mill.

They always wanted to push salaries higher. And Toews and Kane are at 10.5. I think McDavid will be in that ballpark.

I lean towards assuming he gets what Barkov, MacKinnon and Monahan got with 6.3mil over a 6-8 years span. That'd fit perfectly with McDavid asking for 9.7mil for 8 years so they'd total a nice and even number

That would be perfect... I'd like to think that McDavid understands the importance of cap space, and doesn't request 12+ as Iggy mentioned he saw in that article... Hope he has a similar view as Crosby...

The salaries of the few higher. That only helps the majority of players if the cap consistently increases. As it is now, they can't keep pushing for that sort of increase and reasonably expect to not lose a lot of players to Euro leagues.

I think the pressure is more on after he is a UFA. Then the control is majorly in the players hands.
