Its actually Kunlan and vladvostok at 83 and Sibir at 81. they website updates the current game depending on the score. IE if its tied during the game it shows the team getting 1 point even before its over and then adjusts each time a lead changes. Confusing.

Ah - gotcha ... and it is confusing.

You keep updating standings in the KHL - like Shalunov is coming over here as the savior once his season is over.

The KHL is a HUUUUGE drop-off from the NHL. And we are talking about a Russian player that struggled mightily at the AHL level. And he is not in the same company as Panarin - so that comparison will not hold water.

If the Hawks offer him a contract, he will be playing again in the AHL - to show if his game will transfer over to the North American surface - and that is a BIG "IF"!!!!!!

- dahawks8819

So you know Panarin was going to be a top 10 scorer in the league his 1st year? But Shalnuv is going to be terrible.

He's RFA so there wouldn't be an opportunity for outbidding. He could get an offer sheet though. In the case of a Saad situation, he's actually got more upside as a rental because you'd get a return for trading his rights, rather than a UFA who just walks. As far as why Tampa would deal him? No idea, it was reported as a rumor.
- JRoenick97

Was noted somewhere that unless a couple of current roster players move from TB, they are going to have to expose/lose some of their RFA's just due to too many guys to protect and too much money to resign everyone to market contracts. Sounds somewhat familiar? Callahan is one of the anchors they have that would probably prefer to get off their books, but will have to protect for expansion due to NTC.

Get something now, or risk getting nothing later or struggling to be cap compliant after arbitration, when you will have no leverage.

1) Thank you for doing that. I find the updates informative. Hawks need to maintain their spot as one of the top destinations for elite overseas talent.

2) Not bloody likely. Shalunov and his agent would never agree to this. He can always just stay in Russia & be paid handsomely & play top line minutes. Hawks will have to basically guarantee him an NHL roster spot to gain his services. There would likely be a euro opt out clause if he shows poorly in camp -- i.e. If he shows enough to warrant a middle 6 role he sticks otherwise he goes back home. His play this year has given him leverage, no way he's playing in AHL next year unless it's on a conditioning stint.

Haha, I'm just a realist. Look at who they have acquired in the past at the deadline. Ladd was a UFA. Vermette was a UFA. Fleishmann. Weise. Timomen. Campoli.

Very rare, if ever, has Bowman acquired, at the TRADE DEADLINE, anyone of significance that was not on the last year of their deal.

Add in our cap issues. Add in the expansion draft coming up. Add in that most teams are buyers and there are very few sellers.

Focus on the UFA guys.

- onehundredlevel

Wouldn't that maybe mean it would be better to go after NOT ufa guys? Seeing as how everyone else is in on them, maybe get better options on guys signed past this season.

No, all I am saying there is a big difference in skill set between Shalunov and Panarin. And there is a body of work on Shalunov's time in North America. When he returned to Russia, there was not one tear shed over his departure.

Just remember, Rundblad looked like an all-star on the bigger surface with no contact - how did that work out???

Maybe. I just dont think they will. I can see them being very active around both expansion draft and normal draft so they can fit under cap.

Well, take Duchene off the list. They are not pursuing him anymore. By the way it was communicated, that does not preclude anyone else previously mentioned. Just him. Will see what I hear.

See above about Duchene. No Palat either.

Let me rephrase. You could maybe get Palat for this year. But you won't be able to resign him. They have no cap space. They will get outbid on him. Someone will offer him 4-5 million a year and the Hawks can't match that. So it will turn into a Saad situation where you have to deal him.

Also, why would Tampa deal him? There is not much chatter out there on him getting moved anyway.

- onehundredlevel

1) Because, according to you, there is no possibility of the Hawks making any other moves between now and the summer. About which, you are, um, wrong. of course they can, and they might. Crawford has a modified NTC in effect today, and there's more to that story. Just one example.
2) You're right, there is always lots of chatter before teams make deals. Wait, no, you're wrong there, too.

We all don't know what will happen, who knows we might be surprised.
I'm just saying Palat would be my first choice checks alot of boxes and is doable

Expected but unfortunate. He would definitely look great on paper playing with 19. With all the talk about continuity, if they do bring in a top 6 guy, do you think they keep one of Schmaltz or Panik on Toews line, or do they just go nuclear in the playoffs and push 81 back there and have a whole new line with the two young'ns filling in lower.

How hard was Toews pushing for him? Does this mean his next buddy Doan is top target?

Way off topic, but does anyone here use the NHL Gamecenter on Playstation VUE? If so, how does it work. I'm looking to reduce the cost that I am paying DirecTV.

As stated by pretty much everyone, CO is asking a ton for him... and they should he's a top player. I would guess that the overall leverage for the Hawks vs the league is only slight tilted against Stan. They can say we don't have any space and top heavy, and we can say we are still a top team regardless. Seems like Stan finds ways to do a lot of things.

(Look how I keep saying "we", like I'm part of the team or something)

Not unexpected. When this rumor first came out, I didn't see how the Hawks would have the assets to land him.

Or, is this the "He is safe" speak? How many times have we as fans heard that line, only to find out a few days later the opposite happened.
