Wonder if they'll take guys with a year left on their contracts (in. Laich, Greening, Michalek) to get picks and/or prospects again? They'll have a lot of room next year and can bury nearly a mil again. I love it.

Don't care who they are. As long as they have no more than 1 more year (2018 UFA) , I'd take a look at taking any contract on if the incentive is right. Leafs are still a couple of years away from counting themselves a regular playoff team (hopefully.) Management seem to be willing to do anything in order to get talent or assets (picks/prospects) into the organization.

We've got a few core players to build around. We seem to have quite a lot of young role players in the organization already. We need the support players (the middle group).

It's nice to see this management actually have a plan in place.

Wouldn't we have it regardless of when they put them on LTIR?

I thought as soon as we hit the cap max we could put players on LTIR...I didn't think this was a surprise really?

Yes. Ltir isn't cumulative they didn't bank 15mil of ltir throughout the year, that is what those 3 guys combine to make.

I fully expected them to put on ltir around the dadline to free up space.
