I heard somewhere Virtanen had a sense of entitlement, which is not a good thing for a young athlete. I thought Hunter Shinkaruk was similar. He needs a coach like a Sutter breaking his balls every day, not sure if Green's approach works with that kind of persona.

Makes you wonder how Green does manage things down in Utica. Its weird to see Subban be named to the All Star game but be a healthy scratch numerous teams by Green.

Someone had to be selected from that garbage team. Subban's selection shows how pathetic the depth in Utica is. Allstar games a bench mark for wanking, anyways.

I don't think JV's head is in the game. I also heard he trained under team guidance last offseason, why would they let him pack on those pounds then? I'd be pissed as a player if that was true. There were some things said between JV and the team early on that suggests they weren't on the same page.

speaking of garbage, if Sutter and Bo are out again, hopefully we get to see old Bulldog Biega rocking the 4th line RW role, or if we're really lucky Larsen gets a shot!!!

Don't dare give Grenier a shot...

Maybe Pedan will be called up to play centre.

Guidance doesn't mean that they're following him 24/7. My guess is they probably gave him a program to follow and then checked up on him once a week or something. It's not like he was working with them every day where he was supervised 24/7. He was known to party a lot as it was, he might need someone to be with him all the time to keep him from being tempted.

I've never been a proponent of drafting BC guys for the team, it's hard enough to be successful as an NHL player as it is, now add on top of that the pressure of playing for the hometown team which has never won a Cup in it's existence, along with being a high profile Canadian franchise and with a fanbase that expects any prospect/acquired player to be the saviour of the franchise and it could crush even the most mentally tough player there is. Not to mention how quickly the fanbase turns on a player when they hit a slump or have one bad game, all that gets magnified when you're a hometown boy.

Subban has had really good numbers for a D man. He has slipped a bit, but for a while he was top 5 in D scoring. He is in the top 20 now at #18. Team is still dog poop for sure though.

I thought it was the opposite? Didn't Jim Benning say that Jake thought in order to be a true power forward, he had to put on the weight of some of the games top power forwards, which is not what the team or management wanted?

I want to see him traded so that people will STFU about him.

He is a long shot, and people should not put up any expectations on him as he clearly has a plethora of elements of his game that need to be worked on before he ever plays in a Canucks jersey (IF). I don't think we should expect him to be anything more than a very very big project.

Team trainers didn't notice that during the summer?

The sooner people here realize Virtanen is just another Kassian the better.

Funny thing is we harped on our GMs for never taking the local guy or guy like Lucic or Gallagher, and when they finally do, it's the wrong pick.

If two prospects are deemed equal and one is local and one isn't, always take the non-local prospect

Again, they probably weren't monitoring him all that much, just gave him a program to follow and expected him to follow it. Unless they were weighing him every day or following him 24/7 it's totally possible that he could end up like that. If they asked him to bulk up too, they might not have saw the weight gain as detrimental. The fact is, he decided to party while he should have been working out and ended up out of shape and overweight and that's ultimately on him. Probably this offseason he'll have a minder who'll be monitoring him 24/7 and keeping him on whatever program they decide will be effective for him. One would hope that he's learned from his mistakes and will focus more on being ready for the season then enjoying the good life.

Obviously you missed the feature on him last game as he drove to the rink and was interviewed. Pretty clear he chose Vancouver because it was his hometown team.

He is scratched because he is a liability. The selection committee only looks at stats.

lol the whole thing is kind of funny. Virtanen wants to be a heavier power forward, so he eats a bunch of donuts in the offseason. JB see's him in camp and says "WTF Jake you think you are Byguglien?" and then Benning says to media "jake in the offseason put on weight cause he thought he had to, I don't know what he was thinking, just part of maturing and becoming a pro I guess"

totally understand that. Basically playing as a 4th forward. I have no expectations of Subban, in fact I am hoping that teams don't follow him too closely, see his point totals, and trade something higher then a 4th round pick for him.

I heard that Stecher actually didn't ride a bike to and from Rogers Arena every day, and the he secretly hired Mike Commodore to pick him up via uber and drive him around while talking complete smack about Babcock the entire time.

Jake was training with the Sedin's in the summer. Perhaps the trainers weren't involved? Blame Henrik.
