I am sure a world class Dman doesn't hurt also
- VANTEL

1 elite coach

1 elite goalie

1 elite #1 dman

They have the making of a contender with some, but not a lot of work. I'm sure Claude Julien sees that.

We went to the finals with none of those... I think we win in 2011 if we had on of, or both CJ and Weber...

The NHL always finds ways to deal with these contracts ...I don't believe for a second that webers contract is still on anyones books by the end of it
- Redmile247

Does that go for Luongo's contract as well?

Do you also believe the Canucks won't be on the hook for Luongo's contract?

Yup

CBA could be up in 2019

So basically from then til two years later there will be buyouts that don't affect the teams cap ...every contract on a teams books now should be viewed as until 2019

Unless your a team with multiple contracts like this

Linden and Benning know we aren't making the playoffs. Why do they need to spell it out for you? They aren't going to throw their players under the bus and announce to the media that they are out of the race
- CanuckDon

Bloated has selective info gathering. Over and over we are told that they want to make the playoffs, but not at a high cost to the future of the team. So clearly they are saying it's secondary to the future. Over and over he flips it to the playoffs are the priority. Even though they have said the exact same thing the previous two seasons and didn't buy at the TDL to bolster the roster for the playoffs... Bloated continues to claim that this is still the priority.

Here's how he would comprehend an sentence like this. "We are starting the season with the goal of making the playffs but not at the cost of prospects and high draft picks. We are only looking to trade for young players if it makes sense for the future of the team"

It's a strange priority.

Can you imagine if Benning came out in September and said our goal is a last place finish You are exactly right. They have never been buyers at the deadline and they won't be for at least a few years.

Why do we keep playing Miller every night and why hasn't Benning approached Hansen or Burrows yet about moving them if this team isn't trying to make the playoffs?

It's an admirable goal to try and make the playoffs, even if some of disagree with the goal.

- belcherbd

You don't know if JB has talked to those guys or not. That isn't a very good argument about not wanting to move those guys because of the playoff hopes. TDL is still 2 weeks away as well.

Regardless of what team management wants, who starts is WD's decision. WD is going to try and win. That is not a very good point at all... are you saying that management should be telling their coach to deliberately lose no matter how bad it looks?

This is funny. A week ago, Whiskey-Tango thought I was bsing about the people who would surface in the couple of weeks leading up to the TDL that think this team is going to make moves for the playoffs. Here we are, a couple surfaced already. Wait a week, there will be more. It was like that last season.... same people...

Bloated is money... should have wagered with Whiskey-Tango but that's like stealing on this bet.

When I say Gillis set up Benning, unknowingly, I mean from a draft perspective. Come on guys you've gotta read between the lines. Everything can't be explained to you.

1) he is the starter

2) Hansen has no choice. He must submit a list of 8. You are insane if you don't think Benning is speaking with teams about Hansen.

3) Burrows has already said he is open to a move.

- CanuckDon

Sure he is the starter....Still doesn't explain playing him every night. If they were not concerned about playoffs they would likely like to get a good look at thier starter for next year.

Wouldn't you agree it's pretty hard to move Hansen if he hasn't been asked for his 8 team list?

I'm not saying any of that?

I'm refuting Don's claims that mgmt doesn't have playoff hopes.

he set him up by not trading away picks for the first time in years? He acquired a 5th round and traded away a 4th round. Not quite sure what you mean here.

I don't need it to be spelled out but it would be nice to see a definable direction in player personel choices.

Yes, JB has done a lot of house cleaning but what has he replaced it with? I see lots of lateral movement.

JB has improved the prospect pool but then turns around and signs miller, vrbata, and eriksson. I think this plan of rebuilding while still being cup competitive just doesn't work.

JB can position his team to be young, competitive, and exciting and not sacrifice draft position to do so. If the fans buy in then this transition could be very exciting. Not the horse poop we are being fed now.

- bloatedmosquito

Like I said when those moves were made, they will make little difference long term. Here we are, Miller done in a couple of months, Vrbada gone, and we still picked Boeser at 23 and finished in 3rd best lottery position after these signings... looking like another high pick coming... I understand how strong you felt about your original positions on these acquisitions, but all you feared hasn't happened. We still got an excellent prospect our one over achieving playoff season. We look to be picking high the two seasons after that and so on... who cares if there will be a couple of 30+ year old players for a couple of seasons after the Sedin's. Every team has room for a couple of vets.

I never understand this attitude about the transition. People want to lose to get a top 3 pick. But they want to lose all season long and look like they were in the games they lost. They want them to score a lot of goals, while playing strong D, but still getting outscored. They want to lose all season while their coach does so respectively and look like he's got this team's future on track. They want to deploy a system that looks successful, but not actually win. They want all this while the team plays crappy AHL players and prospects only. No free agents. No trades for 23 year gray beards.

What kind of glue induced fantasy is this. If you are going to lose all season, it's going to be a horror show. The coach will look like poop. The D will look like poop. Scoring will be poop. The media will be poop. The fans will be poop. Hockey will be poop. It's all poop that these people wanted.

Only thing he can do is pull a Vrbata. aka provide a list of 8 non-playoff teams. Hansen isn't a pos so he will provide a proper list
- CanuckDon

He's also not a UFA at season's end. If he picks 8 non playoff teams, he may be playing a full season plus there...

Maybe they have or maybe Hansen already gave a list a while ago either way, I am not so naive to think they haven't been shopping. I would.
