This organization doesn't know how to say bye to ex-players. It is like pulling teeth.

Eddie Lack had the fan base in tears.

We want to extend Miller and Burrows again

- VANTEL

My guess is this trade deadline will be similar to the one Lack was dealt, unless he stands pat.

I agree with this 100%, and I dont think it has to be players either. Include prospects

That being said, if they trade Burrows and bring him back on a 1 year deal next season to do it all again. I would be ok with that. Winnick was traded twice in almost exactly a year and brought in 2 older prospects, 2 second round picks, a 4th rounder and a bad contract. I would not be opposed to using Burrows in that manner

I've never met a Canucks fan who loves Miller. Not one. I Really hope they dont resign him. Or if they do, it's after they trade him somewhere else. You're right about Burrows though, should have been gone two years ago when his value was a little higher. So much sentiment around players. Except Edler, who ironically is probably the best out of the old core but everyone seems to hate.

With the amount of games that Miller is starting do you not get the sense he will be back?

Do you think Canucks will pay Markstrom 3.666 mil to play 30 games?

I have a bad feeling Markstrom is down to his final games here.

I think the difference is there are/were D pushing for opportunity. Up front, the Canucks have very little depth and will be rolling out the likes of Megna-type players with only Gaunce, Virtanen, Boeser (if he goes pro) really pushing for a spot. Burrows could have a bottom 6 role so kids dont have to be the 6-8 minutes guys

Meh, he took Virtanen. We'll wait to see with OJ. Was disappointed he didn't take Tkachuk.

To me his best moves have been as a GM acquiring Granlund and Baertschi.

FA took Virtanen.

The thing with the draft picks is we really can't rush them into the NHL and with a lack of depth of guys pushing to play in the NHL, it is hard to not want to see BB given a shot right away.

The publicly stated criteria for success, or goal, was to make the playoffs. I hope we get some extra draft picks as a consolation.

- hillbillydeluxe

Yeah I get this. Goals and success may have different meanings and interpretations. For me succes for the Nucks is winning the Cup. Anything less is just a try. Like they said they will try to make the playoffs.

Anyway, we all want to be entertained in the journey. So let's see what happens at this point in time. As far as developing the team to win it's a set of moves they have to strike gold on. Drafting, trading, and free agent signings. How much can be done to push the team into a competitive nexus is what we are waiting on.

We all know the team isn't good enough now. We try to take whatever enjoyment we can in how they play. Maybe why there is coaching criticisms when injuries are not hampering deployment. But that won't change the bottom line of team core improvement.

If that's the truth, this team deserves what it gets.

Yes. Asset management will help. With transition. How much we will see. All depends on returns, right? As for trading away 3rd and 4th rounders for help. That didn't hurt Canucks prospect pool. It was the failure of MG's 1st and 2nd round draft picks.

This is same issue now with transition. JB has no first rounders he picked on the team. So until that happens we won't know the impact of prospects. Tree only one in now. But we are seeing what some of his trading and free agents has set up. Bo of course the shining light from MG time.

- Nuck4U

I disagree. Are you saying that there is no value in 3rd or 4th round picks? Gaudette and Forsling were 5th rounders... Every pick that you make in the draft is then turned into a prospect. How they pan out, well no one knows, but they are now a prospect in your organization as soon as we call their name. Every time we sent a pick in the opposition direction for a rental, or for a NHL ready player back then, our prospect pool was effected.

Tryamkin is a 3rd rounder, Hutton is a 4th or 5th rounder, every pick has the chance to be a good one. Taking a kid who is in the top 200 players in the world for his birth year, you are bound to find a diamond in the later stages of the draft.

Jim Benning not having a 1st rounder currently play is not the end of the world IMO. Would it be nice for Virtanen to be playing in the NHL right now? absolutely. But would I rather him be in Utica developing than playing on this crappy roster? Hell yes.

Tony Gallagher reported it a long time ago. I will try and find the link. Take it for what it is worth coming from the source, but....

Found this, but I can't find the actual article, will keep looking.

A large reason why the building is empty when they start losing is because they've (frank)ed about for their entire history and created an apathetic fan base.
- LeftCoaster

really? they f*d about for their ENTIRE history??

bit of an exaggeration there don't you think?...

I seem to recall Pat Quinn came on board and made a lot of moves to get the core together for the 1994 cup run and the team actually having some modicum of success in those years.

I also recall Brian Burke coming on board and making moves to get the west coast express going and trying to make some moves to get playoff success to go with the exciting play in the regular season.

I seem to remember that MG came along and helped set the team up for a run in 2011 around a good stretch of years where the team was exciting and dominant in the regular season...

didnt' get the cup but was a solid team for a good 4-5 years around each of those eras...

I believe Benning relied a fair amount on the Canuck scouting staff in the first draft too?

I get the feeling Miller will be back and Markstrom will be traded to a team that needs to expose a goalchie or has some issues in that regard.

You'll get at least 1 viewer but he'll probably watch it several times a day. Here's a tip, put some broads in the background.
