Well Budaj has crapped the bed. If they were calling penalties like they did on Carter in the first we'd of had a tin of penalties.

Sutboy will be full of excuses come tommorow. It's time to send him into the Hall of ex-NHL coaches right along with Therrien where he belongs. It's time to hire Gerrard Galant and win some games.

(frank) Muzzin and Martinez as well btw. Trade them both for a 3rd rounder. I don't give a (frank). Yeah Budaj sucked but we would have been better off with Tom Gilbert than those two worthless idiots.

You made my point right there. Like you, I was mostly just stating a fact of the situation. It's why it's hard for guys like Gilbert (and Schultz, like you said) to fit in. If you're treated like a spare part, it's hard to play like anything more than a spare part. It doesn't mean that you're washed up, though.

What it does mean is that you're not a professional. Maybe you're right, maybe Gilbert needed a hug, or maybe he needed to be told he would be given top 6 minutes and then given top 6 minutes, and then he would've been a success... bottom line is that he is a pro with 655 games under his belt and he was hired to fill a role and he didn't.

Well, you don't know that. Did anyone expect Schultz to step into the '14 playoffs after not playing in the NHL at all that season and make a difference? When he replaced Mitchell during the Anaheim series and was surprisingly solid, who would've had to have come in if he hadn't been around? It looks to me like it would've been Andrew Campbell, he with a whopping 3 NHL games under his belt. Having Schultz might've been the difference between winning that series (allowing them to move on and win the Cup) and getting eliminated by Anaheim, since it was a very close series that went 7 games. You may not have been very impressed with Gilbert, but a guy with 655 games of NHL experience would've been a nice thing for the team to have on reserve this Spring, just as it was nice to have Schultz.

well, you don't know that they'll have a run like 2012 where 6 dmen played every game. Insurance is nice when the day comes that you need it, but for all those other days it's a money sucking racket.

It means that you're not a professional if you don't fit in? Isn't that awfully judgmental? Is Purcell not a professional? Is Sekera not a professional? You can dislike a player (as I certainly don't like Purcell) without having to put down his professionalism.

What's your point, that insurance (i.e. depth) is a waste of money just because you might not end up needing it?

It means you're not a professional if you cant come in and play to your skill set when asked to do so. These guys in particular are veterans of this league, they know what they need to do and they know when they haven't done it, which is why the excepted their moves to the AHL. And Sekera might have worked out, but he got hurt and chose to sign elsewhere.

My point was what if injuries don't happen.

Easier said than done i guess. And even though Muzzin and Brown have played like trash, there upside is to where you juat let them go and continue there trash play. I guess we'll see with Gilbert. Only time will tell.
