I don't disagree. But he still was a cheap option as a long term #4.
- sbroads24

He wasn't a guy that stood out for any one particular reason, but that doesn't mean he wasn't an effective player either.

He plays a solid game very quietly. I would kill to have guys like that on our blueline right now.

I refer you to the eternal condemnation of the Buffalo fan's "satisfaction with mediocrity."

He's a $5 - every body has one, and if you don't you can get another one by lunchtime.

- Der Kaiser

That doesn't make trading it for 6 "shiny quarters" any more of a good idea.

i would say the bigger issue is, as buf19 put it, that we traded a 5$ for a toonie

Edit: dammit he beat me to it

If it was really that easy to replace him, why hasn't it happened yet?

This defense is awful. Pysyk wouldn't have been it's savoir, but he certainly would have been better than 3 of the guys who are supposed to be staples in our top 6.

You know, I wish we had dollar coins in regular circulation down here.

I forgot about our Sacajawea dollars.

You've alluded to this before, but I have never seen a defense corps make such a chore out of an outlet pass in my life. Even Ristolainen stands to improve on it.

Not sure if this has been posted already. From the BN:

"They're better at home this season, but imagine if you could throw out Thursdays (sounds like a promotion). They're 1-7-1 at home on Thursdays, 12-3-3 on all other days."

Also, sully being sully:

"I hate to single anyone out, but it's fairly well established that Evander Kane likes to get out on the town. In seven home Thursday games this season, Kane has no goals and is a combined minus-8. Just a coincidence, I'm sure."

This is why measuring shot attempts individually for a defensemen can be a good tool.

A good outlet pass = offense = shot attempts

Rarely will you see Josh Gorges shoot the puck off the glass and have it turn into an opportunity for us the other way

Yes because Everyone knows Wednesday nights in Buffalo are party nights and he is probably super hung over.

And what a crock of S*** that he hates to single people out. He does it for a living.

Gorges also always panics in the offensive zone and does a soft dump in to the corner where the forwards have to fight for possession again

From last week:

Buffalo Sabres Stats

With last night's loss, the #Sabres record on Thursday nights dropped to an atrocious 1-10-2. 😱😱😱

Gorges at best maybe does 1 thing well, and that's work around the net.

He doesn't completely forget he's covering someone like others do, he's just too slow and not skilled enough to do much else

Marcus Foligno is the WORST HOCKEY PLAYER EVERY.

I mean, seriously... he has ZERO talent, ZERO speed, and he doesn't even seem to try. He is a cancer. I'm not sure how plays hockey professionally, but if you watch his play, you realize it.

No, not at all.

Look at Ottawa's first goal the other night:

https://www.nhl.com/video...ct/t-283344302/c-49428903

Who didn't cover his point assignment? Who, when he realized he didn't cover his point assignment, just ho-hummed it over and made a half-effort?

Who, while playing Vancouver, dogged it to the bench and caused a too man men penalty?

Who, during the Ottawa game, tried to make a breakout pass, only to see a whiff come off his stick?

He can't catch a single pass that hits him on the tape. If someone else dumps it in and Foligno is chasing it, the Sabres are NOT getting offensive zone possession.

Watch his game...

Why is this such a surprise? What evidence is there that he is a good hockey player? He's getting $2.25 MIL per year to do what?

His speed is serviceable. he's a third of a ppg player who is third in the league in hits. He's exactly the kind of guy you need in the playoffs. Guys like him and Mike Grier excel in playoff type hockey
