My friend said he saw Friedman say flower maatta would get job done for landeskog... anyone else see this or is this that article from a few days ago

Sign me up for that! Maatta is basically our 6th dman right now. I hate giving up on him, but it's a rare thing to trade a 6th dman for a 1st line winger.

Kulikov or a guy like him is likely. The only thing I think is certain is adding a 6/7D. Kulikov might have some 4D potential but since he's been hurt he's in a bit of a schultz situation from last year.

Kulikov would be a solid add. I like him a hell of a lot more than I liked Shultz. I hated Schultz and he proved me wrong. I think Kulikov is a bit more than just a bottom pairing defenseman. He would be the kind of stabilizing Lovejoy-like add that we need.

I felt schultz was a strange add since he needed coached up in a little bit of time. I always thought he had some talent, but as a rental was a tough fit since it was questionable he could contribute last year as a fill-in dman. Now he's likely our long-term third defenseman after likely signing a long-term deal in the next 6 months.

That would cripple our defense for a luxury on offense. I get the displeasure towards Maatta the past two years, but we'd have to play Cole in the middle pairing if we did that. Let that sink in.

If we did that trade, Ruth better have a trade in his back pocket for Shattenkirk and a plan to extend him.

We would definitely need to add a defenseman.

But no way we can acquire and pay landeskog and shat.

Lovejoy not the fastest guy surprised maatta couldn't find a way to do what lovejoy did and let daley freelance.

The big addition at forward probably won't happen. But it does seem like 1-2 changed on defense are certain next year.

I'm convinced the Pens are going to prioritize signing Schultz in the offseason which changes how much money they want to tie up in Maatta. Plus, if they're sold on Schultz, you have to protect him in the expansion draft.

Exactly. I'm skeptical that Colorado would want MAF, but I certainly could see them wanting Maatta.

Doubtful, and probably not worth it to be honest. Pens don't have someone to step into Maatta's role.

The Lovejoy thing was a joke......mostly. People will laugh, but I could see Lovejoy coming back here if Jersey ate some salary. Especially if Maatta goes to Colorado.

Rather flip Wilson. I like bottom six Rust more than bottom six Wilson. Neither are top 6 forwards.

I dunno, Wilson hasn't looked out of place when playing with Sid/Geno (120 min combined at 5v5 this season). The production might not be there, but the chances have been. And he looked good with Geno and Horny last night.

A "High pick" (20-30th in 1st) is not acquiring Barrie.

That comes pretty close to forcing you to trade Maatta for a forward that you can protect before the expansion draft. I think Maatta has too much trade value to expose.

I dont believe guentzel or sheary need to be protected, which would allow us to protect rust or wilson

I don't think flower maatta 1st and wilson is even worth barrie.

And the issue here is the need to protect schultz or figure out how to get lvs not to take him. Or trade maatta for a forward and resign and protect schultz. 4F and 4D protection isn't ideal.

Maata for Duchene could make sense then if colorado is interested (After the season).
