Metro is a beast. If isles can beat Washington they would have to play Columbus or Pens.
Best thing isles can do is keep winning and hope to get the 7 spot. I think Habs are easy matchup as they are way overrated. |

Isles should get Sharp. price will be low and he can snipe.
He also is close with Leddy. |

Going .700 the rest of the way is probably what they need to do to make it. That would leave them with about 99 points. I wouldn't be surprised if that was the magic number and also wouldn't be surprised if it were a little higher. The Metro is absolutely absurd this year.
Saw something unbelievable on twitter last night: The 4th place team in the Metro (NYR) has as many or more points than every single other team in the league, save for MIN. The Hawks are the only team that ties them, as well. So other than MIN/CHI...the 4th place team in the Metro has out-earned everyone else.
That's ridiculous. - eichiefs9
I just noticed that the only team in the East with a record below .500 was Detroit at 0.482. It very unbalanced.

TRADES AND SALARY RETENTION
Prior to the new Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) negotiated in 2012-13, a team would take on a player’s entire salary in a trade. Under the current CBA, however, these terms apply:
1) The acquiring team must assume at least 50 percent of the remaining salary and cap charge of the SPC.
2) Such a contract can only be traded twice using provision 1 during the lifetime of the SPC.
3) Retained salary by the trading team cannot be more than 15 percent of the upper salary cap limit.
4) A maximum of 3 such contracts with salary retained in a trade can be on a team’s books at any one time. This provision is included in the 2013 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA MOU).
Seems like, for example, if the Isles traded Halak and retained 50% of his salary, the team that acquired him could then trade him once more and retain up to 50% of what remained after the Islanders' retained the original 50%
So:
If we traded Halak w/ 50% retained: he'd carry a cap hit of $2.25M (50% of $4.5M)
If the new team then traded him, they could retain 50% of $2.25M, or $1.125M.
After that, the 3rd team could not trade him (until that particular contract expired). At least that's the way I am understanding it. - eichiefs9
Thanks

Remember when all we ever heard was how Detroit would come to the East and dominate b/c they no longer had to play Chicago, LA kings, St. Louis...etc. Still waiting for their dominance.

To be fair and honest, I really don't know if I am interpreting that correctly. But, as far as I can tell, it seems correct to me. |

I don't think Sharp will be that cheap. Razor thin top-6 forward rental market means there's going to be a lot of competition. |

Here's the no math summary - the Isles need to win a lot more than they lose.

Barzal's performance this year makes it clear that the Isles will not include him in a deal unless its for an all star winger signed to term and entering his prime. Barzal will hopefully not be moved and will be an Islander next season. |

800 hockey where did you come up with that number? They win tonight they are in a position. Now road games are tough but 800 isn't the number more like 600 - Upstate_isles
Ottawa made the playoffs a couple of seasons ago with a ridiculous second half. If the Isles don't hit a long cold spell and keep playing like they are now, they'll have as good a chance as any team in the mix to make the playoffs. |

The Isles need to win in regulation against all the teams they're competing for a playoff spot with. If they do that, they'll take those four-point games and that will make a major impact on making the playoffs. they simply can't lose points to teams either behind or at the same level as them in the conference any longer. |

If Rangers/Isles grab #7,8 (WC) spots.. they can potentially meet in the ECF |

Beating the teams that are ahead of you is obviously the most direct route to the playoffs, but they're all important. With the loser point, it becomes incredibly difficult to make up ground on teams ahead of you. |

Well let's see here, first it was too hard to jump.all those teams, they did it. Next it was they were to far back point wise but they can be in with a win tonight. Now its all that road games. Then its if they make it they can't win, need multiple pieces. This place is the most negative place ever, as I said before if cappy was still here we would have 70 pages of female doging. Let's hope they get in and play well, they can beat any of the teams will they idk? Personally I'd like them to get at least one player that can stay with the team and make the playoffs, then in off season when the president comes in ( they are getting one) see what changes he makes. Be it garth leaving or players acquired, or a new coach there will be moves made. Let's just be happy this team is in meaningful games as a month ago we thought it was #tankfornolan, sure this team had a terrible start, played halak for too long, and fired cappy 4 years too late but they are still here tonight despite all those issues playing for the final spot.
This wasn't directed at anyone specific just a lot of negativity on here and honestly I cannot root against my team no matter how bad they are |

Yeah I'm not saying it's impossible by any stretch of the imagination. Schedule ain't getting any easier though. Starting with DET on 2/21 they begin a 9-game road trip that includes the Western Canada swing. That's going to be a grind. Can't speak for everyone else, but I'm far from negative. I think they can absolutely make the playoffs, I just know how difficult it will be for them. Only 9 home games left on the schedule and they haven't been great on the road. It's going to be a battle until they're out of it, that's for sure. |

Good news is they traditionally play well on the western trip and had a good road game in philly. Ottawa was just one of those games where they weren't awful they just weren't great. They aren't going to win out either, just seems like 1 loss and this place go's nuts. |

Not really much to add. Goaltending isn't changing. We have plenty of defensemen that can play, not even including the awesome one in Bridgeport. We have plenty of depth forwards and the scoring forward rentals that will be available are going to be pricey.
Always a shot 'ol Garth pulls a rabbit out of his ass, but I wouldn't expect the Isles to do much. |

I'm honestly OK with this I mean Sakic must be high on the legal pot, Roy saw the writing in the wall. He wants a proven guy a 1st a top prospect and maybe more for Duchesne? sorry fellas but this teams chances email going to be in the off-season most likely |

I think most people will pass. I don't get the feeling he's particularly keen on trading Duchene. Kind of a hail mary he's throwing up. "Pay me a king's ransom or else I'll keep him" seems to be the order of the day for Sakic. I don't blame him either, he has no real "need" to trade him, he's just exploring all options. |
