Your point made zero sense. I dont think sutter at 5x5 is a good contract moving forward.

4yrs/4.4m 28yrs old RHC good on FO's plays a 200' game
He is fine moving forward with Hank & BO both being LH.

Trade him. Trade Burrows. Trade a defenseman. Do not re-sign Miller. Do not extend Burrows. Wave good bye to the Sedins at the end of next season with a great deal of gratitude.

It's a fair contract. I'll take Sutter on my team any day.

Sutter is a fine complementary player, the contract is okay too. That said if someone comes knocking for his services, they should be listening.

Who is knocking with a C to replace him?
I hearya but the return would be questionable prolly
Acquiring top 4 D & C's r the toughest trades.

That applies to all players. Players are a commodity and are all available for the right price. Except perhaps Bo

Honestly if he can train hard like he did last summer and come back and play the way he has this year I would have no problem if Burrows were traded to MTL and resigned with the Canucks in the summer to a cheap 1 year contract. Who knows, if he played well enough we could trade him to a contending team AGAIN next year.

JB and team gave it a honest shot (trying to be cup competitive while the twins were still under contract) but it didn't work out. So they now have to change gears. No reason to delay it any longer.

Your post is an excellent starting point in creating a new identity for this team.

- bloatedmosquito

For sure. Sucks that we are only 4 pts out of the WC right now though as the geniuses in Van are probably still thinking playoffs. We really needed to be 10-12 pts out at this time to get some player movement. See where it goes I guess. I heard Burrows has suspended all of his social media accounts...trade imminent?

Especially when the C's behind him are replacement/AHL/ECHL level talent. If we still had McCann (and he wasn't so unprofessional (same as Virtanen)) then maybe trading Sutter would make sense. The problem with trying to trade a player is always who do you replace him with and is the player you're trading for an upgrade or at least going to be able to play the same role or at least have similar production.

It's not as easy as saying, let's trade Burrows, Hansen, Miller, Sutter, etc. for picks and prospects. When you don't have depth, trading a whole bunch of roster players isn't the best idea. One of them you could probably get away with because you can limp along until the end of the season.

I was just perusing PO team needs & LW scoring seems to be wanted by many teams & we have LE a LH on RW for example. Shooting from the offside gives better shooting angles but we lack LWers still. So i will project our possible future Top 3 lines for 2018 less the Sedins for now.

Sven BO BB
Granlund Sutter LE
??? ??? JV

JV plays either wing as a RH & also allows LE to play his preferred side.
BB is a RH shot & also has been taking FO's @UND.
Thats not too shabby for lines & maybe Gaudette can be our 3C.
So all said we need to draft a C still that is legit NHL pedigree.
In time that C could become a top 6 C hopefully.
With D depth & expansion draft around the corner a scoring LW for depth is needed & drafting D a continuous endeavour. We r likely to have C's & D available with our pick next draft. If we manage to trade for good value as in prospects or picks speed & skill is most likely our best options to find gems. If D is BPA then D it is. This draft is questionable on talent depth so not expecting miracles.

I'm on board with that. Burrows has a desire & knack not many players his age has.

This makes sense if you are trying to compete and develop players in a transition to a new core. Though the calls for so many trades for picks is part of the tear it down approach to only way to rebuild. Well it's a novel idea but not fool proof as many teams have shown they are always stuck doing this in one form or another.

2018 is less than 1.5 seasons away, neither are guaranteed to even be in the NHL next season

Why not use this, it will more than likely produce more realistic fillings of your projected lineup post-Sedin: https://www.capfriendly.c...m/browse/free-agents/2019

Its who is under contract in 2018.
The 2nd line is pretty solid.

The Sedins hopefully will be 2nd lines next year. IMO they are currently playing like 2nd liners as well. Not a bad thing, just father time taking its course.
