The Islanders made all kinds of noise about possibly taking Duchene. Ask the Islanders fans about that one. Hedman was mentioned in passing as potentially going to the Islanders, but not as much as Duchene was.

Not commenting on that particular trade proposal because I don't think it is realistic for several reasons, but I am not a fan of Duchene. I think he is a selfish, losing player (or at least has been so far). Sure, his production is decent, but I don't think there is much else there, other than that.

I don't know the guy, obviously and haven't seen many Col. games in recent years, but I have seen every second that he's played for Team Canada and I'll tell you, he is a standout. There have been games where he was the best player on the squad, even surrounded by talent that an All-star roster can't touch.

I think you'd be hard pressed to find a Ranger's fan that "dislikes" Stepan, but you can discuss, from a business standpoint, is he or and isn't he worth $6.5MM for the next 4 years

Trade Stepan for that RHD for the playoff run.
Would free up a spot for Vesey and Buch to both play top 9 minutes and save some money to sign the young guys when they are due

I think it was one or both of a) the fact that the Islanders were 100% tight-lipped about the pick and eventually speculation will run rampant once the obvious news stories dry up and/or b) the Islanders having a little bit of fun and trying to keep everyone on their toes.

There was never any serious concern that they would take anyone other than Tavares.

I think it was one or both of a) the fact that the Islanders were 100% tight-lipped about the pick and eventually speculation will run rampant once the obvious news stories dry up and/or b) the Islanders having a little bit of fun and trying to keep everyone on their toes.

Yes, they had some of Scott Gordon's special "Friendship Kool-Aid" in Garth's basement. Tavares was relieved that he had to sit down for the shortest amount of time out of the three of them.
