I don't get what happened with a portion of this fan base and common sense, all in regards to trading players. Whether it be Girardi, Nash, Staal or Stepan. Players either having a down year or bad trajectories of career for a while. Why would another team give us anything decent if we don't even value the players as decent. Does this not make sense to anybody else.
- tomburton99

I said something along those lines last night.
Take our garbage and give us your best player. What GM wouldn't jump on that?

Do you think if Stepan had hair like Zucc this conversation would be different?
I'm saying that half joking and half serious. He looks older than he is so maybe he is perceived as old and in bad shape when he really isn't, give him hair and he looks 25-26, without he looks like 35+
Honest. Can people here all honestly say their perception of him isn't influenced by his physical look ?
Something else to think about.. and no I am NOT knocking anyone for looks, just putting it out there, how we, society, sometimes perceive people

- MiloslavHorava

Yes.

also, the fact that he is slower than anything. he is just not a physically demanding player, not big, not fast, not strong. but he is a very good player. probably one of our smartest players.

Fair assessment.
- tomburton99

The bottom line is this for me. I am all for taking chances on players, but for the price Colorado is going to ask for him, the acquiring team is going to have to marry that guy, and I don't think he is the type of player worth that commitment.

I don't think the Islanders ever really considered taking him over Tavares, but if they did, they made the right call.

Yup I agree..
He is not flashy. He is not going to WOW you with his speed, his shot, his stick handling, his shiftiness. He may not be the most gifted but what he MAY lack in skill he makes up for in hockey smarts and positioning.

Not commenting on that particular trade proposal because I don't think it is realistic for several reasons, but I am not a fan of Duchene. I think he is a selfish, losing player (or at least has been so far). Sure, his production is decent, but I don't think there is much else there, other than that.
- Pete V

yea i dont think COL would trade Duchene for Step straight up. I agree, Duchene is not a great player. he needs some vets around him. but i also think he has all world talent. if you put him with a player like Nash, boy that would be one great line.

Colorado parting with a former 3rd overall pick, younger than stepan would be something like...

To COL: Stepan, Graves and 1st

To NYR: Duchene.

Gorton would be fired if he made that deal.

Stepan will never be a player that's going to wow anyone. But the hockey guys appreciate a player like that and what he offers probably more than the fans do.

Okay so IF we were to make a trade with Colorado for Duchene, what would you add:

Stepan
and what else?

I remember that Taveres-Duchene debate during that draft? Did he really go third, and who went second? Too lazy to look it up.

I think the more interesting question is Landeskog. does a team think he is the next Toews? because that is what they will have to give up to get him. he is a really good player, but worth the price that COL is asking?

the questions i have are why is their team not playing well to begin with? leadership problems? if so that is a mark against both these guys.

yea. i dont care what his stat sheet says. does he help the team win? yes. same for Toews. he does not lead the league in stats, but most teams would trade half their team for him. the leadership guys that can also play well are hard to find.

is it bad that i think i would make this if COL threw in like a 4th? I dont value Graves very highly. I think Day is our better D prospect and we are married to 5/6 Dmen we have. losing stepan is the biggest loss. our 1st this year is going to be 25+ in a bad draft year - not concerned with losing that.

I agree 100%, I would absolutley make this trade. Duchene has speed that tears defenses apart, imagine Kreider-Duchene-Nash.

The Islanders made all kinds of noise about possibly taking Duchene. Ask the Islanders fans about that one. Hedman was mentioned in passing as potentially going to the Islanders, but not as much as Duchene was.

I believe he's been hurt since December, but, very very disappointing seasons from Stromwall and Kovacs this year, bad season all around for the Wolfpack

He has also scored 30 goals. And when he got his 30th, he celebrated like he just one the Stanley Cup, despite the fact that his team was 243 points out of playoff position.

Yeah, I don't recall ever hearing anything about JT vs. Duchene. And I would have definitely inserted my 2 cents on that one. JT is a stud. His team is a dud.
