Id rank our centers Stepan - Zib - Hayes in terms of best to worst

Sorry lesser Matt but if it's a question of Stepan vs Hayes, see ya Hayes.

- rangerdanger94

If Hayes didn't miss those 5 games he'd be on pace for a 66 point season. He would surpass Stepans career high in his 3rd season. Even missing those 5 games he's still on pace for 60 points, passing Stepans career high.

I think we could use Steve Duchesne over Matt Duchesne right now.

It's more than just that. It's the fact we have 2 guys that are better making much less $. Who are u going to trade when Buch Vesey Miller Zib Hayes McD Skeji (also need to sign a RHD) all need raises all whole your paying a guy 6.5 with a NTC. Trade Hayes (who IMO is better) Trade Zib (who IMO is better) Miller??? Buch??? Etc.
- nyrangers9479

Stepan is a winner and a playoff performer. He is exactly what you will get for 6.5 a year if you look to free agency. I like Zib and Hayes a lot, but Stepan's game is way more complete the either of those guys.

well, as long as we are doing "what ifs"

if the 2013 season wasn't shortened to 48 games, Stepan would have had a 70-80 point season that year...

I hope that ham gives you worms lesser Tom.. honestly though if I had to chose, I would take Hayes. Younger. cheaper, higher upside. Pretty much is a staple on the PK now. In saying that I do think Step is one of the most rounded players we have, and I would hate to see him go.
- mdw7413

This explains my feeling about it in much fewer words. I was going to ask. At their current cap hits/age, if you were the Vegas Knights and could choose 1 of the 3, which one would u take.

That is because he is bald and fat and can't keep up with a full season.

Its an entertaining idea....
I think you'd be hard pressed to find a Ranger's fan that "dislikes" Stepan, but you can discuss, from a business standpoint, is he or and isn't he worth $6.5MM for the next 4 years

Trade Stepan for that RHD for the playoff run.
Would free up a spot for Vesey and Buch to both play top 9 minutes and save some money to sign the young guys when they are due

Worth a discussion and opinions

I just think people are not taking into consideration the void left by Stepan if he were traded. There is Zero guarantee that Hayes and or Zib would slide into that spot so easily and stay as productive. It is nice that most teams still focus on Nash line before looking to our 2nd and 3rd lines. Its a nice problem to have.
Changing that make up now could have dire consequences regarding production of all involved.

You can't have discussions that disagree with Jimbo. If it's not his idea it's a bad one. Hey Jimbo, how's Malte Stromwall?

I agree not doing it before the season is over. But in the offseason it's something to seriously consider.

I believe he's been hurt since December, but, very very disappointing seasons from Stromwall and Kovacs this year, bad season all around for the Wolfpack

Theres plenty of guys out there we could get to play 3c with a ton of upside. I said in the offseason to try and get Dumba and Coyle(his career high was only 42 pts) for Stepan+. Now I doubt we could get Coyle straight up for Stepan. There's plenty of young guys out there we could make decent deals for in the offseason.

you know if you actually have read my posts, I have said several times that no one should dismiss the thought of trading Stepan before July 1st if they don't win the Cup this year

Just a business decision. If he can play I hope he catches on somewhere, if not hope he gets a TV gig. Class act.

I agree, I could see a Skeji Trouba swap, makes sense for both sides I think but see the opposition to it. Regarding Stepan in the offseason, over the summer I suggested trading Stepan and maybe a 1st for Dumba and Coyle. They didn't want to pay Dumba, Coyle was being viewed as a disappointment. Do u think if that trade would have been made we'd be a better team right now?
