Tanner weren't you taking a dump on Mike Smith as recently as a month ago? Saying guys like him, Doan, Vrbata, Vermette, etc. should all be traded immediately as they are dead weight to a rebuilding team and that they should be playing their young kids a lot more to develop them in a lost year anyways?

Mike Smith is as streaky a goalie as there is in the game. After that incredible '11-'12 season he had, it's all been a disappointment from there. No team is going to win with him tending to the net.

I honestly believe that being the team who has clinched the playoffs and the presidents trophy early is a bad spot to be in as a team, entering the playoffs. The cruise along down the stretch. I think it's much better being a team that is surging and peaking heading directly into the playoffs.

Agree 100%. His work with Queens of the Stone Age, Them Crooked Vultures and Nine Inch Nails was great. Foo Fighters are so bland.

Living on the east coast I didn't get to see a lot of Hall, just the numbers and talk about him. I was hoping we were getting a franchise player.
I see now why Edmonton parted with him. He couldn't sniff Kovys jock. Turn over machine, far too selfish with the puck and a very average shot.

NO I've been pro Mike Smith all year. I did say in one blog that he might worth trading and that the team needs a long-term option in net - both things I still believe.

However, the reason for getting rid of him had nothing to do with him being a bad player, or me 'taking a dump' on him.

I want to be the opposite of Dave Grohl, who I find to be a super-douche. However, he's a great drummer, I'm a huge Nirvana fan and I enjoy the Queens of the Stone age, as well as up to ten or so Foo Fighter songs.

They played a terrible game - Mike Smith played a great game (gaffe leading to goal aside) and the Pens were unlucky. But the Pens had six more shots and controlled 56% of the play.

If you control 56% of the game for a season, you'd be one of the top five teams in the NHL. Which the Penguins are.
