6 games only for Nyquist ?

- mrpaulish

Maybe the Department of Player Safety was confused by the Nyquist cross check so they let the monkey throw a dart and it came up to six games on the suspension board.

It's somewhat in line with other suspensions for dangerous highsticks - like Keith's high sticking from last season (which also prob been more). The fact that there was no real injury, Nyquist not having any history of fines/suspensions, and his insistence that while he meant to retaliate, he didn't mean to hit him where he did (like Keith on Carter in 2013), played into it being less than it probably should have been. It's still irksome level of injury is a determining factor - an inch higher and he could have taken out an eye.

I'm not a big count the scout guy because so much of it is based on schedule but 18 scouts at JLA for Blues/Red Wings is a lot.

My guess on the odds of who we get...

1. Tatar
2. Palat
3. Duchene

Possible explanations:

1) Scouting either or both teams for tendencies re: future games against them (ehhh, maybe)
2) Trade scouting (of the Wings) (quite possibly)
3) They're scouts and scouts like to go to games and hang out with other scouts (possibly)

I'd be on board for any of the three.

Palat would be my first choice. I just remember how Palat played against us in the final. I think he would definitely give us more of what we need in terms of size, skill, and speed. Not to mention he plays a defensive game as well.

Wiz, I was not questioning anything you had in your original mock. As a fan of this team, I know the LW is the weak organizational position right now. It just surprised me that there were no LW on the board. But then again, I am only a fan.

What percentage of wingers play on their off Wing? Just got to thinking that perhaps you draft centres first but then you have to take into consideration which way that they shoot.Obviously not a big consideration if drafting high but when down lower where skill sets are more equal do you pick by shot......

Agree, I'd love Duchene, but I don't know if the Hawks can swing that... I think Palat would be a real nice add.

Pass on Vanek, Iginla etc..

Meanwhile Blues at the Joe tonight - Ilitch honored before the game.
St. Louis has the only goal - on the first shot of the game...

If the Hawks could sign and afford Duchene I would trade any round draft pick or picks for him.

Does anyone know if a draft pick will ever play in the NHL or ever be as good as Duchene.

Answer: No

My seven rounds are up on draft site.com and I have most assuredly written MORE about my top 31 than the hockey news has.
It is a draft that is loaded with players that are equal in that they all haven't progressed enough to guarantee themselves reason to select them in slots in the mid first round all the way to the mid fourth round....plenty of warts on the kids but the right scouting staff might get lucky and although I have to assume every team would take Patrick first I can't overlook Hischier because he is so offensively quick. I like Kole Lind for the hawks.
He is a scorer and is still developing but he is sneaky good.

Z, back in the day when the Daily Herald was a free site, I'd read your stuff choking down my coffee at 5 AM wondering, who in the hell is this guy?

But I appreciate your insights and efforts on the draft site, and your passion in this area is truly remarkable.

From one former educator to another, a MAJOR tip of the cap Sir.

Carry on. And I enjoy your reading not only the draft synopsis, but your takes on all things Hawks.

Especially the memories of the old days. Yes, I've been around long enough to remember.

Last year it was WHY ARE WE PLAYING MASHINTER OVER ANYONE?

My question all this year is why the hell are the D pairs what they are? Why can't 2 and 7 play together anymore? Why is Seabs with Kempny? 57 and 51 are just really bad at puck retrieval in their own end. If you can split Campbell and Van Reimsdyk up why not? Call me nostalgic but we should be doing this.

Duchene sounds too good to be true and would probably cost us too much value in return, but I'd love to see something like:

Schmaltz-Toews-Panik
Panarin-Anisimov-Kane
Palat/Tatar-Kruger-Hossa
Hinostroza-Kero/Rasmussen-Hartman

With a goal and 2 assists tonight, DeBrincat has hit 100 points for the 3rd season in a row. Not bad for a munchkin.

And just 3 goals away from 50 to tie the record with 15 games left to play. Assuming he plays most of the remaining games, he's on pace for 60.

Keep it 51-4 like it was, other than that agreed. roll 6/42 at 3LD while each is hot. Off game means press box, switch, rinse repeat.

I never took it as that, I just wanted you to know I rank them as if I was drafting all of them to team wiz, like a pro team list, and when I changed the slot tings to align with the standings all those extra picks saw raw at almost every selection.
I honestly don't look at that until later.

Many of the RWs shoot left which implies they played there once.

Since petr kilma the euro reverse offhand wing has become in vogue so their stick are closer to the net and I will never forget seeing the The Rocket in his last year also a lhRW, but you have to draft players over position I think.

Funny you should mention that...I always thought this windbag Marty Martino was wrong wrong wrong with each Herald post. Recently on the CSN sports site I see there is a comment section where he is posting, "trade Crawford , Darling is our new number one"
Couldn't control myself had to school him that a guy in a back up role needs years to become a 50-60 game starter...ask Ducks Gibson, or Flames Elliott, only the guy in Edmonton has handle it and he hasn' had stellar numbers except for wins...
