"Palat is seen as a longer term acquisition (RFA this summer) who can immediately fill the hole at top 6 LW and be part of the picture in Chicago beyond this year."

Gotta wonder how much money it'd take to resign him next year.

I guess if it doesn't work could just trade his rights a la Saad

If the choice is Vanek or Iginla, I'd rather run with the kids, Hartman and Schmaltz.

Nice article today in The Hockey News by Jared Clinton on Big Hoss. Watching that man ply his trade, makes me wonder what anyone in or out of sport could accomplish with that kind of drive, work ethic and professionalism. A true first ballot HOF in my opinion.

Arizona and Colorado both have a 0% probability of making the playoffs.
TB is at 11%; DET is at 6%.

If TB and DET haven't realized there going to miss the playoffs, then I'd question their grip on reality. Too many teams to jump over, and not everyone ahead will lose every night.

Thanks for the update JJ...

Boyle checks a lot of boxes and Palat would be a great add as well. Both...?
Didn't look at their cap hits - don't know if we could swing it.

Palat and Boyle would be great pick ups...and would make the team even more formidable.....lets go Stanbo!
- Hawkster

"More formidable" ??? Who wants that ??
If you're going all in for the next 2 years, it's Duchene.
If you're going to trade off youth and speed, it's Duchene.
If you want formidable, it's Palat.
If you want to laugh and cry........... it's Vanek !!

JJ. You are right on it my man!!! Great summery of the possible deadline additions.

Haven't heard much about a Palat addition until now, but I REALLY, REALLY like it. Probably as much as Duchene. $$$ wise Palat fits much better, but Duchene has more offensive upside. IF...that is...IF, the Hawks could get Palat and NOT lose Kruger our forward lines would have options and be very deep.
Palat-Toews-Hossa
Panarin- Anisimov- Kane
Hartman- Kruger- Panik
and many combos of 4th liners (Kero, Rasmussan, Tootoo, Schmaltz, Hinostronza, Desjardins, etc)

Ya...I like Palat. At 6 foot and 190 big enough. Has playoff experience. Been around 3-4 years. Checks a lot of boxes. Liking more and more as I think about it....

Make no mistake - I would rather have Duchene over Palat or anyone else that's been mentioned but if we can't get Duchene (which we probably can't cuz someone will outbid us) - then Palat is a pretty good second choice.

I haven't seen him play in Rockford but a well respected poster here who sees all the Rockford games is not impressed with him. Not quick enough to be anything more than a 7-8 d-man in the NHL. But, he's still young so he has time to improve.

Hey Bogie...I was thinking it wouldn't be bad to have Boyle on the team as well. Solid guy.

But as we've been discussing...if they're going to make a move - enough with the older rentals and hopefully get a guy that will be here...Dutch or Palat.

I'd rather have Stan go for it instead of a Vanek or Iginla. It'll be interesting to see what happens here with the Hawks being off for a week with the bye.

Pokka for Marner?

Pokka for Rychel might make sense.
