Not sure why this is odd to you... That's what happens when you have an elite player. It doesn't mean there is no secondary scoring...

For example...

61% of the Oilers goals did not involve McDavid
68% of the Pens goals did not involve Crosby
61% of the Bruins goals did not involve Marchand
62% of the Sharks goals did not involve Burns
69% of the Caps goals did not involve Backstrom
65% of the Hawks goals did not involve Kane
66% of the Blues goals did not involve Tarasenko
67% of the Jets goals did not involve Scheifele
62% of the Kings goals did not involve Carter
66% of the Stars goals did not involve Seguin

- laughs2907

Interesting.
I had no idea that almost 70% of the offence revolves around Crosby and backstrom with so many other good players On those teams

Wait Every Player that makes Team Canada is a Elite #1 D and Elite Forward

So Taylor Hall is just a average player...........
I knew PC won that trade

No no, around 70% of the offense does not revolve around Crosby... But as you mentioned... Having guys like Malkin and Kessel certainly makes that number higher.

Down years? Not so sure about that. When has any of those guys been drivers of offence? I bet if Taylor Hall was on that line we wouldn't be having this conversation.
- Larsson_fan

Ebs was good for 60ish

Nuga was constant 50+...

EBs had time with the (near) best player in the league and wasn't producing.

So, yeah, down years.

While it us hard to say how the team would do with Hall the past results with Hall and a poor defence shows the team would not be doing as well as this team w/o Hall and with an improved D

But one more interesting stat... 1985-86...

Just 49% of the Oilers goals did not involve Gretzky.

So when those 3 exact players, were on a line together last year a performed well with no driver, that was just an anamolly, or magic? We should blame Chiarelli for trading Hall and getting us a defenseman we so badly needed because these players are all underperforming this season?
- Ihatebrianburke

Did I blame Chiarelli for this? I dont think so. The point I have been trying to make, which for whatever reason seems to be beyond your comprehension, is that I am concerned with secondary scoring come playoff time. This year may not matter, and we should be happy just getting to the dance for the time being, but this rebuild was put in motion to give us the chance to seriouslycompete for a stanley cup for multiple seasons. I have consistantly tried to take the longest view possible with this team, and not get too high after a few wins or a jump in the standings. You and others want to make this out to me being negative, when in reality I'm just trying to be realistic.

I also agree with Willis's article ( and Iggy as well) that we most likely do not have a player of Doughty,Chara,Letang,or Keith's calibre, let alone a Hedman, Burns, or ( though I think we have a couple defenders that will compare ) McDonough that it takes to make ot to a SCF in our system.

The concern with secondary scoring can be addressed in a couple of ways, and I dont think its impossible to do so in the next couple of years, even though we traded our best asset for a player that doesnt quite fit the description.

Disagree.

Hamhuis was a number 1 then. He made team Canada ffs. Edler was well ahead of what Klef or Sekera are. And Bieksa was Larsson + that year. Their D core was way way better than what we currently have.

- Iggysbff

Incorrect.

They were all very good Top 4 Dmen, Hamhuis was at best a Top 2, not a true #1.

Every one of those guys were ahead developmentally than are most of our Dmen right now.

Hamhuis may have made Team Canada but he was the least used, and not even sure he played most of the games.

I actually agree with you....plus Klef has the potential to be better than hamhuis, Larsson to be better than Bieksa....However, where we gonna find our equivelant to Edler? Both of you seem to have forgotten how Erhoff in his prime was...we dont have on of him either.

Yeah I'm not willing to say that the Oilers would be better now had that trade and subsequent signing of Lucic never happened.

I miss Hall. I wish that he was still on the team with Larrson, but it happened and is in the past. I feel bad for Hall that he put up with all the losing only to get moved out as the team is almost there to take that next step.

The team is winning. That is what I appreciate the most.

Boogie2988 playing the role of Francis. It's an over the top character that I feel he uses to get some real anger/frustrations/feelings out. It's interesting stuff.

I am not a good at making such micro-comparisons.

I just think that those Canuck teams D-by-committee style is very familiar to what is happening in Edm right now.

If the Oilers can duplicate that success, with the only difference being actually winning a cup...I would explode with joy.
