The team is winning. Not just on Talbot, not just on McD, Not just on Drai. A good part of it is the MUCH improved D, of which Larrson, and Russel, have played MAJOR components.

The only stat that matters in the end is the one counted in the W column, and w/o Hall, w/ Larrson the Oilers are making more W.

EDIT: There have been teams to do the D by committee successfully. Notable among them is the Canucks circa their SCF window. They had a bunch of solid Top 4 Dmen but no true Stud #1.

Eberle, RNH, and Pouliot -- Bad years... If they were playing decent, imagine where the Oilers would be now.
Lucic -- Producing at Lucic levels. Looks like he disappears, but still producing at an expected pace.
Maroon -- Doing great
Letestu -- Producing at a good rate
Kassian -- Producing well for where he is in the lineup
Pitlick -- Was doing very well until his injury
Caggiula -- Creating opportunities and pitching in with some offense. He's a (frank)ing rookie.
Slepyshev -- Contributing... Has shown he belongs. He's a (frank)ing rookie.
Puljujarvi -- Was producing at a better pace than Draisaitl was in his rookie season... Puljujarvi will be great.
Sekera -- Producing offensively
Klefbom -- Producing offensively
Larsson -- Defensive beast who is starting to produce offensively (with no PP time)
Benning -- Has shown he can produce offensively... And he's a (frank)ing rookie.

But he wasn't played in all situations and was far from dominant in an offensive scenario. Far more of a pure shutdown guy. And incidentally, defence alone is exactly why he played on team Canada. He had 23 points that season.
