If you guys could pull off a Hanzal, Vrbata combo, you'd be the scariest team in the west.
Vrbata has a weird contract, with heavy playoff bonuses, which will scare off a lot of teams. The Oil are one of a few teams that could take him on. He'd look pretty good on any of your top 3 lines. |

I think maxbone mentioned it recently- there's a few teams like San Jose or Minnesota that would probably hand us our azzes if we met them.
But some other teams like Anaheim or even Chicago- I think we can hang in there - HB77
I don't. We've gotten far too many extra points in OT and SO. Top teir teams win in reg. We've seen it in past years. There is a separation between us (mid tier) and elite. There is no 3 on 3 or shoot outs in the playoffs. |

I don't think Anaheim is elite though. That's the point.
Good team and capable of going deep, sure
And while I wouldn't be surprised if Chicago got hot and got it done again, I'm not sure they're the same team either.
Both are better than us, but forgetting about the east for a second, I'm not even sure there is a truly dominant team in the west right now.
And I certainly don't think there are too many teams outside of minny or San Jose that are unequivocally far out of our league.
Saying some of those teams are higher on the totem pole and could beat us, isn't the same as saying we have no shot.
Cause unlike previous years, it'd be untrue imo |

Teams that have won have either been elite or have gotten on a real hot run at the right time.
Remains to be seen if the oil could go on a lucky hot run. But I'm not getting on it.

They should acquire Hanzal and pooptykock for Pouliot and more crap |

I don't think I can agree with you due to Minnesota. A top-tier coach running three strong lines with youth up and down (Coyle, Granlund, Neidereitter, Zucker and Haula) supported by quality veterans (Staal, Parise, Koivu and Pominville), a productive 4th line, an elite young D corps with RH and LH balance and a goalie playing Vezina level hockey. The ONLY possible weakness is the absence of a true game-breaking forward. |

Just curious Hendo, but if Shattenkirk were available what would you think an acceptable offer from the Oilers would look like? - Wildschwein
I think the added benefit of just bringing him here could be worth giving up the 1st. Ignoring the benefit of competing in the playoffs, you've heard the stories of people not wanting to come here and play until they've actually been here. Talbot is a prime example. Maybe bringing him here and getting him to actually play in some games will help him get over his negative feelings surrounding the place. Gotta think that our post-deadline schedule would help that, too (mostly home games). |

I hadn't considered that possibility.
Was Talbot adverse to playing in Edmonton prior to the trade? |
