Giroux actually had a pretty great second half last year. He, Ghost, and Mason were the reason they made the playoffs. But I agree that he's been pretty awful the past 2+ months.

AMAC played really well last night IMHO
- nastyflyergirl

They were literally about a tenth of a second from being shutout again last night.
They didn't play a terrible game, but losing a third consecutive home game against teams just like they are on the cusp of the playoffs is unacceptable.

It really wouldn't take too much tanking for the Flyers to slip into a top 5 draft position. Just saying

Yes. And a whopping 2 of them have NHL experience. I don't think they'll all fail, but expecting all of Myers, Sanheim, Morin, Hagg, et. al. to be effective top-4 caliber NHL defensemen isn't realistic, either. Trouba was a young yet proven top-pair/top-3 NHL defenseman.
- jmatchett383

With what we have seen from Provorov and you had Trouba I think you would pretty happy if they could play together. That's a top pair who can play all situations and one that could be together for years.

A few individual players were fine last night, but way too many were simply invisible, ineffective or just flat out bad.

They need players who can put the puck in the net. Guys who can create offense. Outside of a few guys this lineup is completely void of playmakers and finishers.
- PLindbergh31

The need for a young #1 C has become top priority in my eyes. Thats unfortunate because I thought they would have at least 2-3 more years until having to fill that need.

I think hoping for Couturier to be your '2nd C' on a top tier team is a foolish plan, so that basically leaves you with another big hole.

The bottom 6 in my eyes is probably the easiest to fix. Every player matters as does every line in this league. The Flyers bottom 6 is full of players who basically are average to below average skaters with no areas of real strength or a spot where they excel. That bottom 6 at the very best just keeps the puck out of the net. Not good enough.

They need to go. He lost a few pucks in close due to them.

he's had more good games then bad for a while now....some hiccups here and there but overall he hasn't been a liability like he was last year for the most part. It helps that he's playing with provorov.

You can't make that claim.

the dynamic of the game changed after the 2nd goal. The team deflated after that. The goalie needed a momentum save there. He makes one you have no clue what happens then.

Yet he's returned to the same inconsistency that has been his calling card his whole career. The thing with Schenn is that the numbers will still generally be there. I cannot argue that.

He is what he is, a complimentary piece. I would explore a trade however if it was able to fill that #1 or #2 C spot. Those are dire needs in my eyes.

Mason was putrid. I really have no idea who the goaltender is going to be next year. I think Mason has played himself out the door. I don't think you can trust Neuvirth being the # 1 with his injury history. Not sure what Hextall will do.

What does Mason not making a momentum save have to do with Simmonds goal almost being disallowed for the net being dislodged?

Do you think that just by saying he is a 3rd line center it will be? You know as long as he is used to match other top lines he is going to play top 6 minutes.

I just don't think we should be rolling the same 4th line for 3 consecutive seasons. Time for some new faces.

A tenth of an inch towards the middle of the net and VdV scores...

I think at some point they have to bite the bullet and 'give to get' so to speak. Cannot completely rely on the draft.

The stagnation or lack of emergence from Couturier and Schenn (who seems better as a winger anyway) as a credible 2nd line centers in this league has really screwed them.

Provorov is off the table, but some of those darling defensive prospects may have to be moved. Who for? I have no idea. I've long dreamed of Draisaitl but I worry he is untouchable.

When it comes to the bottom 6, I'd like to see something like this in 17-18:
Raffl-Laughton-Lyubimov
Leier-Cousins-Weise

Laughton and Leier can replace the unscratchables on the PK.

Giroux as a 2c, and Couturier as a 3c would be fine if that 1c was on the horizon. It doesn't appear close. They are pretty much failing in every aspect of the game. The goaltending has been bad, they can't score goals... Sure over the last 3 weeks or so they have cut down on goals against, but that doesn't mean anything when you can't score. Konecny's injury sucks because he played with a ton of energy. He's got skill and speed. I think he could become a 40/50 point player which is nice.

Ah the miracle cure. Just switch up lines and pairings. Not the issue.
- MJL

Didn't say it was the issue. That doesn't mean its not warranted.

If you don't want the team to change lines/pairings or call up some youth from LV, what exactly would you propose the team attempt to do?

He shouldn't be used to match top lines consistently. Simply keeping pucks out of your own net is not good enough in this league if you get that kind of ice time.

There is nothing wrong in my eyes with saying Couturier becomes a strong 3rd line center for the club down the road.

Down the road the Flyers need a #1 and #2 C. I stand by that.
