If we're doing that, may as well move Voracek, Schenn, and Couturier too. If we're gonna gut our team, then don't half ass it. If you want to tank, then do it right.
- jmatchett383

I don't think trading G is tanking. It's escaping an anchor contract.

I took a crap once and it was solid too. I think i had a good balance of fiber in my diet that week.

I think you need to see a doctor if you've only ever had 1 solid poop in your life.

No, but if you're going to trade Simmonds as well, you're basically accepting that you're not serious about competing for a couple years. That's the part I was referring to.

See I don't think that is gutting the team.

I think Voracek can still be good. He is bigger and still has good speed. Schenn can still play a top line wing and Couturier is signed to a cheap deal who can be a 2nd or 3rd line center.

Also Couturier and Schenn are only 24 and 25.

I could be totally wrong in how I see it but I think they would be just fine even after moving Giroux and Simmonds.

You're not wrong, but I think Simmonds would provide the type of veteran leadership that a young team needs. G, IMO, is simply more expendable
- BiggE

I think Giroux is fine as a leader. This team is losing due to a lack of talent. Simmonds would bring back much more young talent than Giroux. That's more important than veteran leadership IMHO.

FWIW, Simmonds really hasn't been very good this year. He's been gobbling up goals on the PP, but he's been just as ineffective at even strength as Giroux. Perhaps more. Not sure why fans always seem to give him a pass, but Giroux and Voracek assume so much blame.

Unless he has a big injury he is hiding it's time to run. This decline has been more than just this season.

I love G, but it's time to split.

- flyer_nutter

sad but true. If Hextall is aiming for 2 years down the road, I can't think G will have a lot left in the tank then, if his current play is an indicator....what's the point?....jump in the water or don't.

No. Subban him with a bridge deal.

Flyers have been far too nice in giving out 'new nhl' contracts.

- flyer_nutter

You can do that, but then, assuming he turns out to be as good as I think he will be, you'll just end up having to sign him to an 8 year deal when he's 24 or 25. If a player is truly special, lock him up asap. It's giving 8 year deals to guys in their mid to late 20s that has to stop

Exactly. Now, if in 2 years, you want to lock up a 22 year old Provorov who is your #1 Dman to an 8 year deal, that is when you do it. He would be 30 when the deal ends.

They're barely a bubble team with Simmonds in the lineup. Take him out and you're pretty much a bottom-five team unless some other players take huge steps really fast.

I am 100% against moving Simmonds. He's our best trade chip for a reason, and it's because he's our best forward. So if you're moving him for youth, then I would rather them just hit the reset button.

I'm at the point where I trade G I think. (frank) what you get back, but no more anchor contracts.
- flyer_nutter

A change is needed but G will be hard to move. Jake on the other hand may be easier but harder to part with. Couturier or Schenn ... I don't know who, but I know Homer would pull the trigger some how in the off season

I would have explored a Schenn+ for Trouba swap this past offseason when they were both RFAs, but that's gone now.

If Garth Snow had absolute power Capuano would still be the Isles coach, even if he had lost 20 games in a row. Hex please do not become a new Garth Snow.

Mason didn't look sharp in warmups but that usually means very little but in last nights game it did carry into the game. after Provorov's chance didnt go in I turned to my friend and laughed and said if that didn't go in they aren't scoring the rest of the night I thought Ghost played well and honestly for the most part the team played well.

little over 2 weeks til the trade deadline. I think its safe to say they should have a clear indication where they are by then. If they are on the outside looking in there isn't a UFA i wouldn't move. 2 of the 3 UFA dmen would be gone. I don't want to see the Phantoms roster poached too bad because I want to see them make a playoff run but I just would not shed a team over any of the UFAs being traded.

The biggest issue that I see with the TDl is that, unless they go on a prolonged losing streak, they'll still be "in the mix," which means Hexy will be hesitant in moving players.

Not much choice on the patience part.
the other part is just an observation, that eventually the patience had better pay off....if you don't think so ask MacT, Tambellini and Lowe in Edmonton....all FORMER GM's

- landros 2

Ive posted umpteen times that drafting and developing the way to go but it is far from a guarantee.

The standings are so damn close for that last wild card spot too which makes it hard not only for Hexy but many other GMs. I wonder if teams are unsure of selling or staying put that it will dry availability up and allow teams to get a little more for rental players.

I agree with this. One thing I do see is compared to last year this teams looks closer to a team out of the playoffs compared to a team that could go on a run.

Last year didn't they come out and play well after the all-star break? I think this year it looks more likely that they could miss.

Last year they rode a red hot Mason to get in, hard to see that happening right now

MacDonald, Read, Wiese all on the books next year. What is that about 11 million in dead money?
- PLindbergh31

Dead money only in that you want those players dead.

Per GM Ron Hextall, the #Flyers have placed Travis Konecny on Injured Reserve and recalled F Jordan Weal from the @LVPhantoms.

Yay, I guess.
Hope they actually give him a chance to play
