It really wouldn't take too much tanking for the Flyers to slip into a top 5 draft position. Just saying
- PhillySportsGuy

Starting Mason for most of the remaining games should be enough.

Which is very sad. He had three really good years here.

Big year for Hextall next year. He's got to make some big strides this summer. Next year is year 4 for him. This same poop next year isn't going to fly.
- PLindbergh31

Agree, time to make some good additions to the on ice product via trade or free agency . I don't care if it is an upgrade to the 3rd or 4th line. Just no more Gordon or Weise additions.
A " real" first line LW would be nice too

To get a top 5 draft pick all they've got to do is keep playing the way they have since coming back from the break.

They had the best results of any pairing last night.

Which means what exactly when the team loses?

The team is averaging well under 2 goals per game in 2017 (17 games). That's absurdly bad. All of the pairings and lines need to be shaken up. For the most part, almost all of the lines and pairings have been shuffled recently to some degree. The only exception is Provorov-AMac. It's time for this experiment to end.

I can see this happening, and that's why I asked earlier on the thread if there's a center with 1C upside in that range. Or even a pure sniper. I haven't heard much about invidual players but I really do see us finishing in the bottom 10 at least

You have to think he'll regress to the mean at some point. I just find it hard to believe that a consistent .918+ guy reverts to .900 in one year.

So what are these new D pairings you think will lead to more goals?

I guess we will see if Hextall's patience pays off.....I know one thing if it doesn't he will go down as perhaps the worst GM in franchise history.
- landros 2

I dont think many fans realized how long this process is going to take. Things look belak right now because their top players are not playing well. Fans are going to have to be a lot more patient.

Ah the miracle cure. Just switch up lines and pairings. Not the issue.

Gabriel Vilardi from Windsor I think has good skills and size at 6'2''. He'll probably go after Patrick and Hischier

Other than the power play goal which was a wicked shot by JT that got tipped in by Lee. They gave up nothing to the Isles. Look at the all game advanced stats it's glaring that they were effective.

They look bad right now, but they're pretty much where they should be. If they play out the string and just deal guys like Streit/MDZ, they will likely either just make the playoffs or just miss the playoffs.

This team needs to make some big moves and start transitioning to a mini-rebuild. There is some myth that Flyers fans won't accept a rebuild and that the team needs to build through the draft while also "being competitive," but I think most people would be OK taking a step back to take several steps forward. Especially if it meant getting to see younger players grow during that time.

If this was going to happen, should have done it in year one of the Hextall regime. Next year is year 4.

Their play in the offensive zone is terrible. I don't know if it's poor positioning that's leading to terrible passing or if it's terrible passing that's driving the poor positioning but whatever it is they've got to figure it out quickly.

Wait, the Flyers had more shot attempts than the Islanders last night?

Funny, I thought they lost, didn't realize that they won.

It's pretty unsettling that no one really knows who the goaltender is going to be next year. But since next year is another throw away season, I guess it doesn't matter.

Please just stop pretending to be a Flyers fan.

I'll admit I can be super snarky and pessimistic, but you seem to revel in the team doing poorly, and I don't get why.

I'll give some time. They did have some cap issues that they may soon be out of finally. They have defense depth from drafting well. They have some depth forwards in Lehigh Valley.

A big problem I see is that it now looks like Giroux has just hit a regression quicker then probably the team thought he would. if that's the case this team needs to find a future top line center. Dealing Giroux probably won't make that happen. For me the only person I would deal that could possibly do that would be Simmonds.

They do have some tough choices to make moving forward.

Agreed, man the packages we could have gotten for Giroux, Voracek, and Schenn. If we went full rebuild then I would have kept Simmonds and Couts and built from there since we most likely would have found a franchise center in previous drafts
